just went over my scoot today also my carb had a air leak some wear so ounce I got it running I took carb cleaner to the outside of the carb ounce it hit the area by the elc. choke the scoot stalled out so that told me air leak. took the carb apart and found the o-ring was bad around the elc.choke sometimes the littlest things matters. its running ok now . give it a try if you can get you scoot to start take carb cleaner to the carb while it is running .

You say you DO have spark? The only other things are fuel/compression. Kick it again to check for spark. I have had several bad wiring harnesses that work one minute, and dead the next. Always the same thing No Spark. Check also if your Cam gear is movable. The timing chain tensioner is a TINY spring that may be broken/soft.

mmmm check the fuel pedcock its the thing your gas line is hooked to so it lets fuel out of tank.you may not be geting enough gas to keep it running long .sounds like its running just for a while then when the carb is empty it stops. does that sound right.to check this losen your gas cap to let air in the tank and see if it well turn over.

Thanks for all your help guys, think ive sorted it. I went out this morning and it started perfectly, went for a 30 minute drive and it was great, I think the crank sensor got wet last night and that was why it wouldent start.

Hi. more problems with scooter I am afraid. About a month ago It rained for the first time in quite a few weeks, really badly. I drove home from college in this weather and had no visible problems while driving. I got home and as I eased off the throttle the bike dident hold the idle and died straight away. I put the bike out of the rain and rushed inside as I had to go to the gym in a few mins. I came out to go and the rain had eased of considerably. I tried to start the bike and it started with great difficulty. took a few minutes of continuous cranking. Once I got it going I figured the ride to the gym would sort it out as it had basically stopped raining. On the ride there the bike seemed slightly slower than usual maybe 1 or 2 mph. might of been my imagination though :/ I got it to the gym and went inside. 2 hours later I came out and nothing would get the bike going. I spent a good 20-30 mins trying to get it going with a friend and it wouldn't go. I used WD40 as well. I got it home and it has been sat in my shed for about a month so I doubt there is still water in it. I have checked: spark, fuel, piston (piston dosent seem dirty or damaged although I dident get a look at the rings), and lots of other things as well. I also checked the compression but I dont have a gauge for it so I only have my finger to go on. It pushes my finger of a little every time I crank, so I assume its good. After checking all these things I hooked the bike up to the car and tried to start it as my battery had died and after maybe 30 mins of continuous attempting to start and altering carb screws and spark plug etc I finally got it going once but it wouldn't idle and it sounded awful. I quickly turned it off and have not been able to get it going again. I am not sure atm whether the rain has caused the problem or if it is just a coincidence as I am sure I would have been able to diagnose a rain related issue I am at my wits end. can you help?
-Aaron

I just put oil in the spark plug port and cranked it without and then with the spark plug. with the spark plug in the bike fired up for maybe a second. so im assuming its compression. does this mean its definetly the piston rings?

..ive been riding in the rain...so hard i had a trooper following me for protection before..for nearly 5 years...no problems....

...doubt the rain caused the detrimental non=starting issue...

..check/clean.. your air filter, run your idle mix screw all the way clockwise(seating lightly)..

..then open it counter-clockwise 2.5 turns...

..put inna new plug, then try to start it...

Dude!!! The carb bowl was full of water from the intake when it stalled at idle. You've had water/Eth. gas sitting for a month in the bowl. Disassemble the carb, and clean it. There's posts on wire cleaners, and such. Get a New air filter/in line fuel filter/spark plug/stuff to clean carb for under 100.00, and it will be good for a long time.
Or "hit it with a mallet".

The Eth. stuff turns into a jelly like crap. Like the stuff in baby diapers. That "jelly" is Mostly water, and diluted acids from the decomposing Eth, and fuel. It turns brass jets / atomizers into Brillo...

Carb Clean, and picks.

Thanks for the replies. the first thing i did was check the carb for water that got in through air intake but it was fine. ive found ou it was the piston as the rings had become pretty mangled and were getting blow back and so the compression was awful. I put a brand new piston in it and the compression was much better but it still wont start :/

Only two left Spark, and fuel. Will it spark? Try starting fluid, and see if it fires. That will leave only fuel.
