Pre-mix ratio
« on: April 04, 2012, 07:56:54 PM »
What ratio of 2t oil to gas do you guys use?

I am mixing about 4 ounces to a gallon of gas. Is that too much? The mechanic at my dealer told me to start with about 4-5 ounces per gallon to break in the new kit. I'm well past the break in period now and still at the same ratio. What should I do? I'd like to see what you guys with BB kits are using.

Too much oil.  I premix at 38:1 with 3.3 oz. oil to 1 gal. of fuel.
With 4 oz. you're running 32:1
Keep in mind that the more oil you mix in the fuel actually lowers the overall percentage of fuel being used at any given moment.  The fuel cools the engine...not the oil.  By mixing in more oil you actually create a lean condition and higher engine temps.

Right. I thought it was too much. Thanks Shaka :)

Just for giggles, what ratio is everybody else using?

I thought I was running 37:1 in the Ruima, and had a brain fart of 640z in a gallon so I broke in, and ran at 74:1 for almost 800 miles till Batts smelled my fart. Most kits run at 50:1 as a standard mix ratio. Most tuners run at 37-38:1 cause of high rpm's. It's more about the bearings than the piston/Cyl.. The oil tends to fall out of the mix anyway settling in the lower case. It gets slung out like a centrifuge from the crank
