Agility 125 - New and Won't Start
« on: May 24, 2021, 05:03:12 PM »
I'm having an issue. I have a brand new Agility 125 scooter. It has a full tank of gas, oil, and only 2-miles on it. I can't get it to start! Using the electric ignition, it sounds like it will but then shuts down after a second or two. Plus, I can't get the kickstart to work.

It's important to note that though it's new, I haven't ridden it or turned it on in about a month and a half. I put on two miles when it first got delivered, but haven't ridden it since.

Any ideas on what can be causing this? A fix? Help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Nate

What is the position of the red run-stop switch on the right handlebar?

Yeah, like CROSSBOLT said....flick that R hand RED switch to the other position....then try starting.
Make certain you are firmly pulling one of the brake levers when you hit the start button.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

If I understand you correctly, you mean it sounds like the engine turns when you use the electric inition - but the engine only turns for a second or two. If so, for a start I think you need to:

1. Make sure the battery is fully charged - even while the scooter is “new”.
2. Make sure the battery terminals are properly connected.

I think the fact that the kickstart also does not get the engine going is an indication that the problem could be battery related. The reason being - the scooter has a DC CDI and without proper power (Volts) the engine will never start.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. The red switch is in the down position (so not the kill engine) and I have a firm grip on the lefthand (rear) brake when starting. The lights turn on, so not quite sure if it's a battery issue, but I'm going to look into that next as scooterfan suggested.

I did read in the manual that siphoning out the gas and adding new fuel can help if not used in a while. However, I don't think after a month and a half that would be the issue, but might be worth trying, too.

Thing is, this scooter might be "new" but one never knows how long it was just standing before you bought it, and how many times the shop battled to start the engine.
So I guess anything is possible.

Do you think it could be the fuel? It’s premium that was put in, but wasn’t started for close to two months. I read replacing the fuel might help, but that seems like a real short amount of time for fuel to go bad.

It’s under warranty, so I did call and left a message (can’t seem to get through to a real person there). After troubleshooting everything (except the fuel) I figure I might as well have it looked at.

First check the spark plug.   I would put in a new one and check carburetor adjustment settings.  Plenty youtube videos just for this issue.
