..i just set valve clearance on an un-touched 2006 a50 with 4800 miles onnit...

..checked before adjustments, and they were at .102mm...

..set intake to .04mm and exhaust to .038....

..with unrestricted cdi and boss, scoot runs 45-50 flat out...

hang on is that the same measument you gave me? im gonna get Mr Dave to reset my valve clearences after i get all my engine bits.

Whelp, after I did the clearance last night, scoot started and I heard the tapping.  Now that I have re-done the clearance, since I did it wrong yesterday, the scoot won't start now.

I am going to re-do it one more time, but the battery and spark are fine and when I hit the start button all I hear is a single click and then nothing.

Any ideas on what I messed up, biting nails over hear, I have an appoint down the road at 3pm, need to get her running.

Clicking noise is coming from around the gas tank.

I re-did everything and then I used a string to keep back brake engaged so I could hit start with one hand and use the other to feel around, looking for clicking noise.  I moved a wire (to the bystarter) and it started right up.  Does this mean my bystarter is bad then or do I have a short?

Thanks guys, yes valve adjustment was pretty easy, been a fraidy cat to do it myself.  Thanks for the info and encouragement.  Oh, I just did both valves @ .038mm, no tapping noises now.

Its prob just been a bad connection on one of the wires, when you moved tbe qire its remade the comnection, either be down to corrosion or dirt prob.

You can take off the wires and make sure theyre clean and tight, if its working now i'd leave it but remember what this issue was in case you have the same prob again, then you can check there 1st.

Its all easy once you did it a few times, just teething troubles. Think of the satisfaction of doing it all yourself and the money you saved and will save in the long run with servicing etc.  :)


Been there, done that, with the whole "why the f..k did i even touch it" thought a few times myself in the past  :D

Bystarter meaning the starter relay? There are four wires. One is to the push button start, one is to ground, one is to the starter motor, and one is to the battery. I would check all four for a loose/dirty connection. If they are all in good shape simply replace the relay wiyh one of these relays.

x2 I had my scoot tore down a few weeks ago.and found so many wires that had corrosion on theam.
Im lucky scoot would start. I took my time and cleaned almost evey part of the wireing. makes a big dif.
