Bestem 929 top case on the Downtown 300i
« on: August 31, 2011, 02:57:08 AM »
Thought I'd show you all what it looks like to have a Bestem top case on the Downtown.

To mount the SR92M base plate you need to remove the standard bolts. I first was not sure how to do it, and asked the mechanic at the dealer.

Push the plugs towards the centre and you'll be able to stick in a screwdriver or other pick and they pop right out.

The Bestem base needed a little modification by providing new mounting holes.

Thus I ended up painting the whole base in a matching colour to the grab bar.
(Forgot what the colour is that I used (Nissan...), but it's a little lighter then original, GM Pewter might be a better match.)

Used Aluminium duct tape to replace the paper backing.

Wiring up the LED lights was the next chore:

I did not wanted to have a loose cable on either the case nor the scooter, thus used two 3.5 mm stereo plugs on both ends to connect.

Now the cable can be removed, when not in use.

And this is the end result:

Lights on:

Brake on:

Jeryll,  I like the looks of your Shad box and would like to know what mounting brackets you used for the installation.
I have one ordered and haven't decided how i'm going to mount it until I can see the universal plate that comes
with it!  Thanks, Oldie

@TANWare Thanks  ;D

@Oldie
This is the mounting plate i'm using. Came free with the scoot. Got the free Shad 40 but was too squeezy so got me a SH48.

Might consider getting this with the back rest for my pillion  ;D
Come as a set with back rest

Individual set without back rest, cost is cheaper than the one i'm having on now. Funny, more material cost less?

@jeryll It sure is a nice looking box.
But I really like the lighting options of the Bestem; plus the pilon back rest is included with the case.
Can't really beat the price!

Have Fun and keep it safe.

Fixes for the lock/latch rattle. I have installed 4 of these over the last 5 years.
I have a triple bag GIVI set on a different bike.  The lock/latch is a tighter/sturdier fit
on the GIVI.
LATCH
Latch ( the black plastic flap that goes over the red lock release pull.  Glue some foam in a U-shape on the inside of the flap.  This will quiet the flap and the red lock release pull.
If it is quiet enough for you than quit here.
LOCK
The red pull button attaches to a metal (actual case to mount) latch.  Unscrew the bottom phillips head screw.  !!! Pull the red pull latch assembly out !!!  Note the orientation for re-install.  Between the red plastic and actual metal latch there is about a 3/16" gap, fill this with foam.  Re-install the entire assembly because you carefully noticed the orientation.  The phillips head screw holds the spring retainer .... this keeps tension on the metal latch so the top box doesn't come loose over bad bumps.
Ooops, the first check should be the plastic surround band around the top case.  Make sure it is tight.  If loose then glue and or add screws to make sure it is tight to the case.

Brown is tail light, Green is common, other should be yellow/green for brake light.
