LOUDER HORN for X500
« on: May 30, 2012, 12:04:10 PM »
I'm looking to replace the factory horn with something louder.  Has anyone replaced it with something like the mini-beast or other air horn model?  If you have and you're out there please write back to let me know.
Thanks

Shop around but consider these:

1. size (might not fit)
2. power consumption (the lower the amperage, the better)
3. sound
4. local laws

try electronic horns. they are loud and consumes less power.

I use an electronic horn like the sound of fire engines (paaaaaaa-paaaaaaaa!!)

I put a Wolo Bad Boy air horn from Autozone on my Grand Vista 250. Had to mount it at the bottom of the windshield because of the size but it sure is loud!

I followed the lead of urbestfriend on this board as to the mounting. Here's a post with a picture of his bikes and horns.

Thanks AV Guy....You can now order the WOLO Bad Boy (Identical the the Nautilus)
CHROME PLATED.  As I and AV Guy have done.  Center the horn low between the black
plastic windshield trim and drill the hole thru the windshield after locating where it
should go (It'll be offset).  I made a more vertical alum. bracket to mount mine.  At
any rate you can run your wires in and around the trim.  This mounting location near
the bottom of the windshield along with two rubber washers and two fender washers
on both sides of the plastic should not pose any outstanding fatigue issues provided
you ride public roads and not thru the woods.   By the way,  you'll have to remove the
front cowl anyway.  You will have maximum sound, safety and it looks decent.

I installed a Stebel Nautilus air horn on the People 150 I used to have. Had to cut away part of the glove box to make it fit.
It was a few years ago so I don't remember all the details but here are some pictures of the install - http://tinyurl.com/y9dg4qz

Stebel Nautilus is a popular choice for motorcycle horn upgrade.  Just beware of fakes.
