Handguard fitment
« on: May 05, 2012, 02:31:05 PM »
Does anyone know of a hand guard kit that will fit the X500? I tried an Acerbis kit that was supposed to fit, but wouldn't due to the plugs that are spot welded inside the bars for the bar ends to attach.

Use a hardened steel punch, and knock the plugs out. 2-3 shots per side, and use the ones you wanted. Don't be scared. It's just a scooter

I've ordered barkbusters Storm (chrome) from Australia.  I should be getting them in 2-3 weeks.  Will let you know how they fit.  According to them, the S-7 model should work for the Xciting 500.  When your remove the screw on your handlebar, it isn't hollow and has a thread.  The S-7 should work.  (I'm hoping).

I got the Barkbusters V-storm S-7 and it offers 3 choices (3 kits within the package).  The one with the 8mm bolts worked like a charm, with one slight hitch.  The handles are so long that the bolt that's supplied doesn't quite reach the inside.  No problem, Canadian Tire(or some place where they have metric bolts) and 3 x 57cents each (one spare one in case) and they fit beautifully.  I got the chrome ones (plastic that's been chromed) for $155 but you can get the black models for about $50 less).  I've noticed an immediate difference in the wind hitting my hands.  I've had to try different positions before locking it in (thread lock supplied with it).  It's warm now but I'm sure it will come in handy as I ride into October and November where it falls down to 0 degrees.  (and they give the bike a great look.  A scooter with attitude).
Before you send for it take out the bolt holding your handles on buy a 6,8 and 10 mm bolts to make sure which one to use before you buy the kit.  I got mine through A Vicious Cycle (Barkbuster's rep in Canada).  Hope this helps out.
