Type of headlight bulb on Grand Vista 250
« on: December 24, 2012, 05:12:55 PM »
Been riding all my life mostly Sport Touring but new to scooter world. Did not know scooter riding has so much fun.My M/C riders friend just don't get it.
Started 2 years ago with Super8 150, just bought Grand Vista 250, next one will be for sure a Kymco with bigger engine, fuel injection and at least 14" wheels.
Living in Orange Couty/ Southern California. New to this forum or any forum, not sure if this thread is for posting question to Scoot Guru....
1. What type of headlight bulb ? is it H4 or HS1 ( want brighter headlight, thinking about PIAA Xtreme White plus 55W )
2. Scooter came with driver manual that does not say much, how can I get a more detailed manual ?
Thanks

Ben

Thanks for the info...
So it's H4, I been using PIAA Fog lights for my MC, they are OK just way too expensive. I take you advice and probably try cheaper white brighter bulb that does not need ballast.
For the brake light I just bought a 1157 type flashing LED for $ 4.99/pair including shipping ( don't know how they can make any profit ). The type that keep flashing as long as brakes are applied . I heard those are not legal in California and most states but cops rarely enforce it. Worse come to worse I can beg for a fix-it ticket.
As I said I am new to scooters, my next question is about tires...
What I have on are stock Maxxis tires rated P ( max speed 90 MPH ), is there any better tires for the twisties so I can keep up with my MC riders friends and prove a point ( safely off course ) ????
Keep the rubber sides down

Well I found this about flashing brake lights in Cali...

"Flashing Brake Lights
California Vehicle Code 25250. Flashing lights are prohibited on vehicles except as otherwise permitted.

There are a lot of regulations regarding "FLASHING" lights in California, This section is within the context of "Flashing Brake Lights Only" in California.

Unlike the federal headlight Modulator code, there is no such standard at this time for "Flashing Brakelights", each state has it's own laws.
Deceleration flasher, amber flashing brake lights, red flashing brake light
25251.5. (a) Any motor vehicle may also be equipped with a system in which an amber light is center mounted on the rear of a vehicle to communicate a component of deceleration of the vehicle, and which light pulses in a controlled fashion at a rate which varies exponentially with a component of deceleration.

(b) Any motor vehicle may be equipped with two amber lamps on the rear of the vehicle which operate simultaneously with not more than four flashes within four seconds after the accelerator pedal is in the deceleration position and which are not lighted at any other time. The lamps shall be mounted at the same height, with one lamp located on each side of the vertical centerline of the vehicle, not higher than the bottom of the rear window, or if the vehicle has no rear window, not higher than 60 inches. The light output from each of the lamps shall not exceed 200 candlepower at any angle horizontal or above. The amber lamps may be used either separately or in combination with another lamp.

(c) Any stoplamp or supplemental stoplamp required or permitted by Section 24603 may be equipped so as to flash not more than four times within the first four seconds after actuation by application of the brakes."

And well I've had 20 or so motorcycles and scooters, I've never had one long enough to need to replace the tires. So don't
know a good kind to use. Maybe someone else will chime in?

Thanks again,MotoRandy, for shedding more lights into brake lights law in California.
To not breaking the law, I might have to spend $70 for a "Trail Blazer" set up, first it will blink fast, decelerate and stay steady.
Hope somebody else chime in for tires question ( they must be P rated. Even it took a long time, but the GV will go up to 92 MPH  - 5 MPH on ODO  during one stretch of 405 Freeway the other day)
