I was looking on eBay at the HID conversion kits for motorcycles, H4 4300k light with slim ballast. It would be great light but would it be legal?

I'll share my DIY Super Bright LED converted Projector Fog Lights.  From 55watts H3, now its a 1 watt LED. No battery drain issues here....

total cost =  $25.00

I've modified my OEM headlight to be more effective by putting a diode (a 1N5402 works brilliant here) from the low beam wire to the high beam wire so the high beam is always just halfway "on" (due to the half wave rectification of the AC current by the diode)

This really helps to see in the distance without blinding other traffic, the beam is less truncated and has a smoother transition to the darkness beyond...

Also the orange glow from the high beam filament at half power, that others see from a distance, makes your headlight stand out from those of the cars around you.

Another simple modification I made is to connect the small 3W bulb at the bottom of the headlight assembly to the low beam so it's always on together with the low beam, and this really improves visibility from the side...

Good idea but it would fail our annual test in the UK. I just ride full beam, never had any complaints. Drivers here will soon flash to let you know if youre blinding them but i never had any issues at all.

We don't have those here - ...yet... :( - and even then it's only a small inconvenience to temporarily disconnect two wires...

Then it's probably time to adjust your headlight to the correct angle... If your headlight is the same type as mine it has almost the same output as a modern car headlight. If I drive with high beam on I get warning flashes almost immediately, heck, I almost blind myself  ;D

What type of bulb does your headlight have ? (Mine has an HS1 halogen type)

Nope, the headlight angle is perfect, i just passed my annual test in Feb, sailed thro with no issues.

I still have a stock 2008 bulb, not halogen. Got a new krypton bulb but i just havent fitted it yet due to all the rain weve had. Reckon i can go to dipped headlights on that, full beam would be too bright. On the stock bulb full beam is not so dazzling.

I was thinking of the same for my super 8 but wasn't sure about the electrical consumption/battery drain. May I know how long ago was this mod and is there any issues whatsoever on battery drain, etc.

I know that the small bulbs should go off when you switch to head light in order to save electricity.

I've been driving with these modifications since the start of last winter with no ill effects.

The headlight doesn't get its supply from the DC/battery circuit, it's on the AC circuit.
