Bad battery charging
« on: June 23, 2016, 08:12:34 PM »
Hi,

I have problem that today my battery went almost dead, i got red battery light on dashboard. I stoped and when i try to start, i couldnt and need to start with cables.

After i started with cables (it was few hours after i switch off scooter) i get no light, but when i check battery voltage, there is strange thing going on, when i start the scooter, it charge for few moment, but just 0.5V more than normal voltage of battery, and then it just goes down, with no charge.

I have Xciting 300ri, i think it is more or less the same like 250 afi.

Do someone have similar problem like this?

 Thanks

When a similar thing happened to the 2009 Xciting 250ri that I used to own, it turned out to be a bad stator. It's either that or the rectifier. But I suspect the stator due to the fact that it does charge a little. Mine would charge .5 to 1v above battery voltage if I kept the rpm around 3000.

To test the stator, disconnect the 3 pin connector that goes from the stator to the regulator. Get a voltmeter that reads AC. Start the scooter and connect the voltmeter to two pins at a time. If the voltage is less than around 60v (I think) between any two pins, the stator is bad. In my case, the voltage was 25 , 13, and 8. I replaced the stator and wen on my way.
