Last variator up-date. I hope?
« on: June 26, 2012, 12:23:41 PM »
Well I am at about 2,500 miles now since fixing/replacing my variator since last belt shredding. I put on my old belt and went with all stock parts. Old belt has way over 20,000 miles on it, but hanging in there? Made sure big washer that go's up against case was bevelled side in. Made sure rollers were metal side to the left when laying on table. Made sure belt was in proper direction. Did not use blue lock tight, (it melted before). Did not grease inner pulley half, as I did before. Put a dab of machine oil on threads of variator before putting nut on as stated to do in manual. Torqued down both nuts. Threw Dr Pulleys in garbage, they were distroyed after only 1,000 miles or so? So I guess it's done and I have cured the problem? If I had not, the old belt would have blown at 500 miles or so. Now I need to get enough money to replace my old belt before it snaps do to age and miles. Stay with stock! :-*

I pulled off the variator/clutch cover yesterday, and at over 3,000 miles on my old belt, everything looks good and clean. Belt looks ok. This belt if it had been replaced by original owner before I bought it, would still have over 20,000 miles on it at least? It still works? It's like a magic belt or something? :) ;) :D ;D :o 8) :-*

That belt may be from the Philippines... Everything is magical there.

I just did a 12000k service and opened the variator box to check and clean - my belt is absolutely perfect and measures like a new one - I believ 30k is possible in the stock belt.....

Yes, I think since about all I do is tour, so my belt is not going up and down so often and wear and tear is kept to a minimal, that maybe 30,000 is do-able? Keep it stock. :-*
