Scooter in a classic car show
« on: August 21, 2012, 11:36:49 PM »
So I was riding through the local city park when I saw a lot of classic cars.  While looking for a spot to park, this guy waved me into a narrow lane with a lot of motorcycles parked in it.  I parked and took off my helmet.  The guy handed me a raffle ticket.  I asked what the ticket was for and he told me I get it for entering my ride.  I said there was a mistake and I would move my scooter.  The guy asked me to leave the scooter because it was "different" and people might have questions. I figured what the hell?  I walked around checking out the motorcycles and classic cars.  I went back to my scooter and 6 people were around.  They asked several questions and then about flipped out when I popped the seat and pulled out my helmet.  That started even more questions.  I didn't win anything, but it was kind of funny to see people checking out my scoot.

That is awesome!  I get questions all the time about my scoot. I live at the NNJ shore area and scooters are just now being seen. There were always a couple here and there but now I see them almost daily. I love stories like yours where people are asking to see the bike.

That is a cool story  ;D

I had a guy asking me about my people tonight. He said he knows a guy who is selling one just like mine, only it's an 01 with 8000 km, for $800. He said he thought it was too much. I told him that's not that bad.

I kinda felt bad because I was late for class and told him I had to go. I kinda cut him off. Come to think of it, this has happened to me a few times now. Seems like I'm running late a lot  :D. Gotta start leaving earlier  :o

Cool. Guess scoots are still kinda a novelty over there then in certain areas? Spread the word brother, get the message out there that scoots are cool, ecconomical and "different".  :D
Chaos is my co-pilot.

I have a XC250 and most people around here are used to seeing the retro-styled scooters or the little chinese scooters.  Every once in a while you will see a Silverwing or Majesty, but the touring style scooters are still few and far between.  The questions I get asked the most - How much was it?, How fast does it go?, and Why didn't you buy a motorcycle instead?  People also ask about the gas mileage a lot

When I told my wife about the classic car show, she just laughed....nice support :)

There are lots of bikes here but most are "underbones" and not so many "scooters". I usually get asked at stop lights when a rider beside would ask about fuel consumption or the cost of my scoot.

Great story, Bley -- thanks for posting. Maybe next time you'll win. I get similar questions.

So why members have scooters and not a motorcycle -- unless you have both?

It was a close decision about motorcycle vs. scooter.  I wanted something that would get at least 50 mpg.  Also I wanted some protection from the road as I would be commuting to work.  I was planning to drive mostly in the city, so no clutch was a big factor.  I also wanted something with storage to bring shoes and paperwork into my office.  I also wanted something that I could ride on the highway, if necessary.  I wanted something relatively comfortable, due to back problems.  I am not into loud exhausts.  Finally, I wanted something different.  After doing research, a scooter seemed to fit the bill better than a motorcycle.  I still plan to get a motorcycle for fun, but my scooter will stay my daily commuter, and it's a lot of fun as well.
