HELP I BROKE DOWN!!!
« on: January 29, 2013, 04:17:22 AM »
Hello fellow friends... i was riding to work one morning... and suddenly i felt a little jolt(kinda when you get off the throttle fast) i lost power, and my oil light came on.... i safely pulled over to the shoulder. got off my "piglet" i didnt see any smoke or oil/fluids coming out... (also no boom noise). i shut it off.... then i try to turn it on again but this time it would not turn and the oil light stayed on.. i ended up calling the tow truck... any ideas on what should i start looking at??? i havent had time to check it yet.. also check my oil and levels are fine.... my 1st inclination was that i blowed up the engine.... any guesses>??

Could be a number of thangs, but from my experience with a 2007 Kymco People 250, I will guess:

1.) Blown head gasket. Check compression, look for leaks (if the gasket blew to the exterior, and the leaks can be quite small... check under it after it sits for a couple of days).

2.) Broken cam chain, which usually won't cause the oil light to come on, but will kill the engine deader 'n 4:00. Will also probably involve replacement of valves and other top-end goodies.

Check battery terminals, coil wire and spark plug wire, fuses, kill switch by throttle and side stand, wire connections to throttle body or carb, relay to starter, and examine all apparent wire connections.

The oil light stays on until the engine starts, so if it's not turning over it's likely electrical. Take out the seat bucket and check it all out.

CE is right, it sounds like the engine died, which is probably an electrical problem, not a major engine problem.

keep us posted,

So that's what happens when the belt breaks....I'll keep that in mind otherwise I might end up rebuilding the engine..Lol!    How many miles did your belt last?

The stock rollers are 23x18 20 gram, so if you can find some 22 gram rollers, mix 3 20s and 3 22s to see if it performs well, then try all 22s.

I tried some 18 gram sliders for a quicker acceleration, but the RPMs were too high and the top end was flat, so I stayed with the stock 20 gram rollers.

The variator nut is tough to get off, make sure your impact wrench is at least 250 ft lbs capable, and hold the variator with a spanner or strap wrench.
