Which grease are you using on your torque driver?
« on: August 16, 2012, 05:16:59 PM »
Hi all. I recently pulled apart, cleaned, and regreased my torque driver (OEM), but am having second thoughts about the grease I used. Valvoline Multi-purpose Automotive and Industrial. It's only been a few weeks, so no damage done, but I want to get a feel for what others are using with good results.

I found on ZumaForums this thread http://www.zumaforums.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=17831&sid=4ae18a8b7751e4a5c5ca09e88e0a264a and although the pics are from some fellow's first attempt (and waaaaay too much grease), there are some products named, such as Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic Racing Grease, Bel-Ray Waterproof Grease, Sta-Lube SL3190 Red Extreme Pressure Grease.

There's a good "how-to" over at 49cc http://49ccscoot.com/tqdriver.html

Batman has a good 'how to' http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=3111.0

Thanks in advance!

Graphite or teflon - based, but any "general purpose machinery grease" will work.

Right on. I wasn't sure if one type or brand lasted between cleanings better than another, but the lubing qualities of the types you mention definitely make more sense. Thank you!

I tend to use the same grease i use for bearings on mine now, Lithium based high melting point grease, tho i have used Rocol Dry Moly Paste in the past.
Chaos is my co-pilot.

I've been in my clutch several times the past few weeks, trying out springs with weights, but han't gone into the td in a coupla weeks. I'm having a time finding a U.S distr. for the Rocol Dry Moly since Streido mentioned it.

I only used it cos i "borrowed" a can from work, normal bearing grease is fine and easier to clean off the excess. That moly paste is some messy sh** to clean off once its on unless you have cleaner. I wouldnt buy it, i just used it cos it was free and i had it at the time and had no bearing grease. Still worked tho for me at the time.

I don't need any help making messes ;D
Napa auto parts apparently has some manner of dry moly, but I'll be getting some Lucas Oil grease in a tube.
Apparently, the Valvoline is rated to just under 300 degrees, while the Lucas oil grease is between 500-540, depending on whether I get the tacky or the heavy duty.
