Tip -Tighten the Oil Filter Tighter than Normal
« on: October 12, 2012, 07:53:01 PM »
My mechanic, who has been working on Kymcos for years, said that he tightens the oil filters on Kymco 500 bikes tighter than the normal "hand-tight" standard.  He said he's seen the filters on 500s work loose in the past.  Just passing it on.

I use the torque wrench.  The recommended 8.6 ft/lbs is considerably more than hand tight.

Just a little to tight and the threads will strip. Be careful. :-*

Richard - which type/brand filter wrench do you use?

I put a 17mm socket on my torque wrench & torque it to 18ft/lbs, not the afore mentioned 8.6ft/lbs which I must have mis-read from my list.  The 8.6ft/lbs is for the oil filter cap nut.  Now I have to go check it on the bike.  :-[

ps: It is a Craftsmen wrench
