Super 9 LC SH10B ?
« on: November 18, 2012, 07:26:39 PM »
Does anyone have any idea of the differance between a SH10B and a SH10D, other than the b tends to break up and fall apart at high speeds. :o LOL Will hp parts for a 10D fit and work on a 10B ?  ???

Sorry, not enough information. It is a 2005 liquid cooled Super 9.On the right side above water pump is a small alum. tab, etched on tab is SH10B With 3702550 on line below it. I have a few service manuals down loaded. All of them have engine code SH10D on them.A google search shows that a SH10B was recalled ,something about motor mounts breaking at speed, not pretty.I don't really know if mine was recalled or not,but some one told me i would not b able to find parts.I was just wondering if anybody else has this engine code.I guess the big question is,is this thing safe to ride.It would do 50-60 with a 50cc but piston cracked so im going 70cc.wow no telling how fast it will go then.Like I said curious George has a bike.         Thanks for any replys.

Not sure about the codes. but I do know that my s9 was recalled, and the engine replaced prior to me owning it...

I'll check that tab later...

This is something you could check at a dealer (the affected engine numbers) or do a search on this site.  They used to post the recall numbers on the Kymco website.  You need to find out if it has been taken care of or not.

My Super 9 exibited some squirrelly behavior for a week or so (the mount was probably already cracking) and then let loose at 45+ mph!  I slowed the scooter down and walked it home with the rear wheel at a five degree angle from verticle.  I had never received a recall notice.

The Super 9 was way out of warranty but they still replaced the entire engine/trans with new.  The actually point of cracking is the front part of the lower engione/transmission care near the pivot.  I have never had any problems with the new one.

Hey i really thank all of the replies I have googled (thank God for google) and 950 bikes were recalled.I'm checking casting numbers if I can find them, and see if this junk yard scoot is one. This is probably another topic but here goes does a sh10 have a 10mm wristpin or a 12mm. Cylinder and piston got trashed. Yup somebody throwed them away.LOL

Damn, I have a 2002 Super 9 LC that says SH10B. 9000555 under that.  Was the 2004 the only one affected?

                          :o

..i manage the maintenance department at a leading aluminum die casting facility..if you drive a late model gm truck / suv, altima, pacifica, f150, 350, etc (the list goes on)... or have a john deere gator, black-n-decker tablesaw...or even an airbag in most any vehicle, you most likely have a casting that came from our plant..

..this type of failure is due to "porosity" issues...all aluminum castings are porous...they can look awesome on the outside, but can resemble a sponge internally if not casted correctly...

..tgrpwz found that there were some, 950 bikes recalled...

..in reality, that equates to maybe 8 hours, more or less of actual die-casting...one shift...

..that those castings ever made it into production vehicles is amazing...
