Starter Dragging
« on: July 04, 2009, 03:43:54 PM »
Urbestfriend appreciates the efforts of everyone around the world helping to solve
Kymco issues.   Today's issue is a Dragging Starter.  I've been fighting this for
several weeks now.  It sounds like a dead battery,  but another battery does the
same thing and both batteries are charged.

I pulled out the starter and it works fine.  I pulled out the Bendix and oiled it.  It was
fine too.   The issue is,  if the engine has not been run,  it just won't start.  If it does
start and once it's warmed up it starts up and runs good time after time.

I would like to fix this here at home.  It's still under warranty,  but the dealer is an hour away
and it would be a trip to deliver and a trip back to pick it up.   If  this is simple and
I can fix this myself,  I can save some money.   Has this happened to anyone else?

I too have a draggy starter on my new 150cc strada i bought, sems to me the wires that ran to the starter were loose but i checked and its tight. i hit my autostart and it starts ok, then i shut it off and hit it again and it drags and clicks like an old battery but its a new battery so im in the same boat you are!
i think it could be that the starter is actually catching the motor in mid stroke which i have no clue why it does it, but  in my case its something i will deal with when it breaks lol

if the motor jumps timing i think the starter does this sometimes  but it wouldnt run very well if it did jump time or heck might not even start so im at a loss for ideas and it runs still so I will put up with it.
but you are right , it does sound exactly like the battery is dead but it isnt lol

Next step for me to check is the Starter Solenoid.
