Is there even such a thing?
« on: August 22, 2018, 11:51:33 AM »
I was thinking yesterday about how I'm going to go about removing and replacing the screws which hold the cover plates over the backs of the turn signals. I have been using two different phillips screwdrivers to do it, a 4" and a 9". The reason for that is that I've not removed the back plastic, but only the luggage bucket. There's a support (on each side) that holds the seat-latch mechanism welded to the frame, in exactly the place I need to be to have straight-in direct access to the screws. As it is, I have to approach the screw at a very slight angle to get them out, and I have to tape the screw to the end of the driver to hold it in place to even get it back in.

This got me to thinking... (dangerous, I know, right?)
Is there such a thing as a flexible screwdriver?

If I could "bend" the shaft of the screwdriver around that damn seat-latch mechanism, I could get straight into the screw, and not worry about stripping out the head.
Is there such a thing as a flexible screwdriver? And where, oh where, would I even go to find one?
Enquiring minds, and all that...
Two things to consider...

2) Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines.

Don`t know where it is right now. The problem I found with this screw driver was, you could not get a tight screw loose with it because it flexes too much. For that reason it fell out of favor with me.

I've not looked yet, so this is just a question:
Could you get to it from the bottom using one of those Z shaped screw driver tools?

I've not looked and when I get to it later, I'll probably go duh!!!!!

Well, I had to go to Lowe's anyway, to pick up another electrical plug outlet for the garage, so I asked the guy in the tool department if there was such a thing, and he took me right to it. Needed to get a #1 phillips head, but it did the trick! More to come...

Given the late hour, and  how tired I was, I admit being seriously remiss in not posting more information.

Here's what I ended up getting:

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-1-4-in-Spinner-Handle-with-Flexible-Shaft/3382208

The only thing I needed to add to it was a 1/4" socket, which I already had, and a #1 phillips bit, which I wasn't sure if I had and bought just in case. Turned out I didn't have any, and needed them. The only thing that would have been better about this, is if the bits were magnetic. That would have helped a lot.

Hey Evil T,

You can magnetize your screwdriver bits by rubbing them in one direction on a magnet.

I took the magnet off of a cabnet door , and stick it on any screw driver, so all my old screw drivers are magnetic now
