tire questions
« on: January 01, 2013, 07:33:35 PM »
Happy new year to everyone! Well my scoot is put away for the winter and im sad already...... I have 5500 miles on her and am thinking of replacing that rear tire before spring. I see so many reviews on tires but want to ask my fellow kymco riders there opinion.  What do you all suggest and why? Thank you all for your help in making this decision!

Michelin pilot power sc is a new tire that has hard rubber in the middle for wear, & softer rubber on the sides for grip in corners. Not cheap but should last a long time for the touring rider. Motorcycle super store has them for about $100 :-*

The Michelin's get my vote too. Gotta love the dual compounds for long life and great traction!

Brand new tire from michelin, have not used one yet, but I used to use Avon's (AM 21 & 22's) on my BMW's . They were also dual compound (rubber) tires. I used to get 20,000 miles on the rear tire on my R100 RT touring bike. :-*

I have a 2009 Xc500 I replaced the back tire with an Avon Viper strike.  I think the front is the Oem Maxxis. The Maxxis is just about done.  I wanted to go Michelin City Grips or Metzler any thoughts?

I am going to go with the new Michelins when I need new tires, but how long do the Avon viper strikes last (rear tire)?  :-*

Make sure you can get Michelin City Grips with the proper load rating for the Xciting 500. One of my friends bought City Grips, but for the rear tire, the Kymco cold pressure spec exceeds the maximum pressure written on the sidewall of the tire! He simply ran the rear tire at the maximum sidewall pressure.

To be on the safe side, I'd recommend Michelin's other scooter tires like the Pilot Pure.

These are the best I know after 15.000 miles of experience with several brands of tires:
Front 120/70-15 Michelin city grip 66S
Back 150/70-14 Michelin city grip 56S
