12v and Lighting Mods

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for reading my post.

I was wondering if any of you have done the following and if so how did you do it.

1. Add a 12 Volt Receptacle so you can charge your phone / other items.

2. Changed the bulbs in the head lights and other lights to LED, for brighter and less energy draw.

1. A 12 volt receptacle is easy. There are two kinds, a fixed one or one with a long wire. For a fixed one, you need to have a convenient location...one would be inside your utility box (under seat).  Just connect it (bolt) directly to your battery and use an in-line switch if necessary...

2.  You can change all lights to LEDs except for the Headlights... Headlight LED bulbs are useless, an HID conversion would be better.

Vivo, thank you for the reply. 

What is difference between the fixed and dangle types?  What do you mean by inline switch?  Does this form have any step by step guides?

Also, what LED bulb will work in all the lights?  What HID conversion would you suggest for the headlight?  I was also thinking about break flashers, any thoughts on those?

The fixed one... you drill a hole for the receptacle just like this one...




The "dangling" one... is like having an extension cord in your compartment... you can extend the wires, re-route, and have more flexibility....





There are lots of LED lights and HID conversion available in the market depending on your scoot's specs and requirements.

You have to take your bulbs out and figure out what they are. Cars typically use
1157 and 1156 for brake and turn lights. Smaller bulbs are usually T10 or T5.
Then go to ebay and buy some LED's of that type.

For the headlight I don't think I'd go HID for a 150 as the bike barely has enough power
to run and the start up current for a 35 watt is around 8 amps. There are some LED's that
put out enough light but they are expensive and you probably need to custom install them.

This can output 2300 lumens but runs on 8.4 volts so you'd have to change the resistor for 12V.
It can have high/low beam too! And all for only $10! But you'd have to make it work in your housing...

Would this bulb work in my stock headlight PIAA 70473 Super Plasma GT-X HS1 Bulb (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AHZBZ6/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1)  Plug and Play?

High wattage bulbs might fry your housing/lens.... If you want more light, install a LED projector type fog lamp...

Yes that would drop in and work fine. It's a 35/35 that seems like a higher wattage.
In my experience it might not last as long as they spec it at a lower voltage. I had
one in my old bike and it only lasted 2 seasons (3000 - 4000 miles)...
