Make a Seat Cover
« on: February 23, 2013, 12:49:12 AM »
You can make a nice cheap seat cover.  This cover is a Bathroom Mat 17" x 24" with a Memory Foam Core.  The bottom is molded with a thin non-skid foam membrane.  Mat Cost $10-15.  Fold the 24" length in half and cut about 3" in from each side at the fold.  Install (1) 3/8" dia. Brass Grommet (Kit is $5.00) at each front corner about 1" in.   At the 2 cuts, I angled them out so the slot was about 1" wide.  along the mat  edge.  You can buy some .016" thk  x 2" wide x 12" lg. brass sheet at the hardware  or hobby shop,  but there are a variety of materials you could use to cover this raw cut edge.  I bent the brass into an angle and then hammered it down on the cut edge.  I also added 2 split rivets in each piece.

On the rear,  I used the remaining brass flat stock (8 1/2" lg.) and held it to the bottom of the mat using 2 more brass grommets.  You'll have to drill (2)  3/8" holes about 1/2" in from the rear corners of the brass strip and maybe file the dia. a bit for the grommet to slide thru.  Use the brass sheet to pattern the holes along the rear edge of the mat.

The flat brass strip slides under the rear of the adjustable seat back.  Thread (2) small Bungie cords thru the front grommets
and hook them under the edge of the seat.  Haven't got too many miles on it yet,  but it's definitely not slippery and quite comfortable.   Sure...You can spend any amount of money for one of these.  But...as an old retired mechanical engineer on reduced income,  this just fits the bill.
