How get cowl covers off??!!
« on: April 26, 2013, 09:18:00 AM »
Hello, anyone have a nice bunch if photos of how to remove the cowl cover to get to the front of the valve cover on a Like 200i??
BTW- I pulled the under-seat thing to see what that distinct rattle-like noise is - absolutely nothing moving under there when I start it up and watch.  Wonder what it is ?- goes away in a few mins. Started 3 days ago.
Almost seems like it could be coming from near the rear wheel.
So : (1) cowl cover removal help ??
        (2) rattle ideas on start-up ?? (65 miles so far from new, so I am not familiar with what kind of noises a scooter is supposed to make!)

As always - I am much appreciative of any advice from you old scoots

I have taken the seat off, and the small cover in front of the head but that is all.  You should be able to adjust the valves without having to remove the entire large engine cover.  Just remember when you put the seat back on, there are 2 screws and 4 10mm bolts.  The bolts are different lengths.  The long ones go in back and the short ones go up front.  It was a HUGE pain to unsnap the front cover to make adjusting the valves easier, just take your time and look at it from behind so you can see how it pops off.

Oldscoot, The slight "rattle" you hear near the rear wheel is the auto-clutch. When at idle the weights are not in contact with the clutch cover. The cover is bell shaped and amplifies the sound. No worries.  When removing the front cover on the cowl, remove the battery cover first. That will allow better access to the valve cover. It is a good idea to remove the seat bucket since you have illumination from above and can see the head from 2 angles.
