New Like 200i LX but can't ride it!
« on: April 13, 2013, 01:29:36 AM »
They rolled my new 200i LX into my garage at 5pm today. Was all set to buy the red one when I walked over to the far corner of the showroom to pick out my 'free' helmet and discovered 15 more scoots that my salesman never showed me. I called him over and said "I'll have this 2-tone LX, please~!"

Then...spent 2 1/2 hrs trying to sort thru their scambled lot of 500 or so helmets with a salesgirl . Poor kid knew little more than I did about helmets. "I understand that they are supposed to be snug, miss - but I'm bleeding from the eyes due to the pressure in here." I never thought that getting fit with a helmet would be harder than buying a scooter (and that was an adventure - -- "no, thanks I'll pass on the $665 extended warranty." "WHAT?!!, that's a big mistake!" I told him I'd sooner take that $665 and add it to my $2500 and shop for a bigger scooter. )
Anyway....I figured out I need a 3XL helmet,  but only as produced by a very few manufacturers. After finding ONE that I could get my head in  I walked out 2 + hrs later with no helmet - knowing that I needed more help than they could give me. OK, my head's in there, finally - but isn't there slightly more to this "fitting" business? I'm glad I left because I found a very good tutorial on helmet sizing on youtube

So, I have  a pretty blue and white new Like LX in the garage - but can't ride it just yet.
Helmets are too important a purchase to be rushed - I know that much - so I will spend time teaching myself , on line, about helmets, and  driving 50 miles visiting more dealers to try them on. I surely could have used some expert help at this --- one of Ohio's biggest-- dealers.
I'm gonna go back out to the garage now....and just look at her.
My wife said it'd be OK to sleep out there if I want.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

If you have an oval shaped head like me, and you want a full face helmet, look at Shoei RF 1100 in a solid color. They come in XXXL which is what I wear. If you like Arai helmets, look at the Signet. If you do have an oval shaped head you will likely feel burning and pressure on your forehead after 15 minutes or so.
I rode my scooter around my townhouse complex for a couple of days while I waited for my helmet to arrive. I feel your pain.
