Some photos of my recent rides.
« on: May 28, 2013, 08:53:29 PM »
Been doing a lot of riding around lately sice the weathers been a bit better, thought i'd post some pics of my tours. Some pictures from around Scotland, ride in the Campsie Hills, down by the Gareloch and from the bonnie bonie banks of Loch Lomond (im sure most of you all heard the song). We got some great country roads for riding on and traffic is normally non-existant. All these rides where within a half hour to an hour of my house ( if you ride fast ;D ).

You're bringing back some memories there, streido. Particularly the summer when my dad and I sailed up the coast from our home port on Morecambe Bay and spent a while just goofing around the Hebrides and the coastal lochs. Good times, and excellent fishing too :)

Very nice indeed Streido. I really enjoyed your photos mate. Like Stig, that brought back some fond memories for me too. We went on a few nice holidays to Scotland when I was a kid. I had an aunty that lived in a village called Dallas in Morayshire, up near Elgin and Forres.  We moved to Australia back in 1970.  Man, that certainly does look like nice motorcycling country though .. at the right time of year of course. Thanks for sharing those with us Streido.
Ride safe amigo.
Best regards, Hairy Bob.

That is my scoot in the photos Stig  :)

My Vespa in the pictures is for touring around and summer riding, my Kymco is only a little 50cc A50 for mucking about on and getting to work in winter and on days i dont want to get the good scoot wet or dirty. If i had riden my Kymco those days i would still be on my way home now since the Agility only does 45-50 mph on a good day, and thats down hill with the wind behind me  ;D
The Vespa is my baby, the Kymco is my workhorse  ;)

Yeah Bob we got some great riding roads, when the sun is out theyre hard to beat. Just stripped and rebuilt my carb ready for soke more riding tomorrow hopefully, it meant to be another nice day. See where the wind takes me and get some more snaps if i can. Planning on doing a few rallys this year over the summer, the UK scooter scene is pretty big so theres usually a run on every few weeks from may thro to sept.

You ride your Kymco to work in the winter ......snow!?
I ask, because I may very well be attempting that with my LIKE 200i this winter --- snow riding. It is my only work car....unless I want to wake up my family and have them take me in their cages. 'Twould be humiliating!

Please, tell me about snow riding - I have a fellow in Germany who is also giving me pointers.

I wont ride if the roads are covered in snow Stig. Our local council is pretty good with gritting and clearing the roads, if they are clear then i ride but if we get heavy snow lying on the ground then i either take the car or mountain bike, i only use public transport as a last resort. Normally i ride most days, think i missed about 14 days last year all in due to real bad weather.

You really need to slow down, especially on bends etc, if its frosty or icy out, try not to lean in bends and keep the scoot as upright as possible. I know from experience that black ice is no fun when you hit it at 40-50 mph. Another issue is your visor tends to steam up if its very cold so you have to crack it open a little to let in some air to keel it clear, which means you end up with a cold face unless you wear a hood or balaclava under your helmet. Over gloves will help keep your fingers warm too, without them my fingers are numb by the time i ride the 10 miles to work if its below 5ºC

:o Holy crap fellas, I'm getting frost bit just listening that.  You guys would piss yourselves laughing at what we reckon's cold over here in winter.  Gotta admit, I take my hat off to you guys though, riding when it's absolutely friggin freezin ... and what's this bloody SNOW riding business for sh** sake !!!  That's pretty bloody hardcore guys .. crazy maybe,  but definatly hardcore.  Happy days though fellas, your summer starts tomorrow morning, and it's the weekend ... how good is that !!  So, up with the sparrows tomorrow lads, and get yerselves a nice little ride in if you can.

So take care, and ride safe you maniacs  ;)
Regards, Hairy Bob.

Nice pictures streido looks like a lovely area there. I have always lived near to the sea because it makes for wonderful sunsets.

Len

I would love to live on the coast, thats in my retirement plans eventually, somewhere warm  :D For now i just ride up and down the coast when i can, cant beat getting out the city and into the country. Luckily i live on the outskirts of the city so its only a 5 mins ride for me and im out into the countryside and farmlands and about 20-30 mins or so and i hit the coast. I also work on the river Clyde in a shipbuilders yard so i get to sea the water every day.

Was out again today down our west coast, sun was blazing till i stopped for a break then the heavens opened up so i headed home. Soon as i got home and got off the scoot the sun came back out and it was sunny tje rest of the afternoon. typical. Least it gave me time to wash and wax the scoots. Hopefully get out again on Sunday if its nice.

Bob your winters are probably as good as some of our summer days  :D
I lived in S.Africa for a bit, still remember sitting out in the back yard on xmas day having a barbeque with the family. It felt odd seeing a guy go around dressed as santa claus for the kids while the sun was blazing  :D
