Performance CDI vs. stock de-restricted CDI?
« on: July 18, 2009, 11:16:11 PM »
Am I going to have a difference in power in my scooter by purchasing a performance CDI? I already have de-restricted my stock one by cutting the wire.

Urbestfriend asks if you thoroughly reviewed Agil's "Derestricting your Agility CDI" thread further down the list.
When I originally commented I indicated;  "Yes...there is an increase by cutting the wire."  Your question is will
you see any significant improvement by buying a "super duper CDI".   I'm not sure it's worth the money.
Believe me,  I searched and looked at these performance CDI's before I attempted to cut the wire.  I'm glad I cut.
Agil says the rpm increases to 9,000 ?,  but when you only start with somewhere around 4 hp.,  that percentage
is rather insignificant,  meaning mine doesn't take the hills any better and gets to 50 mph only on the level or downhill
with the wind at your back.   Apparently there is more value in  adding other performance enhancing options such as Exhausts,  CVT spring and roller changes, air cleaner, etc.  But one thing leads to another and pretty soon
unless you've been forced to the 50cc limit due to other constraining factors,  consider your investment and costs
compared to buying something bigger.   I can say that if you're not mechanically inclined a scooter can be a wonderful teacher.

I like my 50cc,  It's a lot of fun.  I also have a 125 Vino.  I also recently got a GV-250.  In my case,  the cost
of each insurance policy for the three is the same.  I figured if,  I was going to buy insurance,  then I could
have a bigger bike with only the additional cost of license plates.  So that's what I did.

Thanks for your feed back bestfriend, a little more info on my situation I have already purchased a 85cc kit for my scoot exhaust and soon I plan on purchasing a few more things clutch, variator etc., will a performance CDI make a big difference with these modifications I've already purchased?
