Speedo quit working

My speedometer quit working. When I turn the DT on, the dials does the dance, when I start moving, it doesn't move. Any ideas? I know it's tied to the front brake, is there a magnet that's supposed to be there or something?

  did you have a disc lock and you moved the scooter it would move the speedometer reader  just reajust it ,.

Nope, no disk brake lock. I'm wondering if there is supposed to be something on the disk brake? I couldn't see anything obvious.

  it is not on the disc brake ,.  look nat the smaller disc with the slots in it, there should be a cable coming off of it,  that should be the speedometer cable, the end has to be close to the slotted disc,  it may need a adjustment ,.  it may have moved while you washed it,.

that's tone wheel,... it may be cracked, damaged, or blocked... inspect the tone wheel.. it must also be aligned with the speed sensor...

Go to a Kymco Parts List (Stadium Yamaha) and check out the Part # of the Speedometer Pick-up for your model.  If it is the same as the Xciting.  The magnetic Pick-up has been redesigned.  Mine did the same thing.  Depending on your model year (mine is 2009).

You are experiencing the same as I did.   Sometimes dancing needle,  usually nothing.  Used a GPS for some time until someone mentioned redesign on this Forum.

Thanks all. I'm one month out of warranty. I called Kymco to see if they'd cover it anyway as it's obviously a defective part, and I'm so close. Not sure what they'll do. It was weird, drove to work, everything worked fine. I parked in a parking garage, went home, and immediately noticed it wasn't working. The cable and disk look okay, no visible damage, I took if off blew it out, but still nothing. I'm assuming the cable will have to be replace, or the speedometer pickup. Were you able to replace just the pickup?

Update: So I found out what's wrong. And thought I'd post this for others in the future. I'm kind of surprised it happened and kind of surprised it doesn't happen more often. Seems like a possible design flaw, or perhaps what ever was holding my speedometer cable just broke. If you follow the speedometer cable up from the front brake to the top of the fork, there is a connection/plug before it disappears into the mess of cables under the light. On the other side of the connection/plug are two wires, purple and red (I think that's the color.) One of the wires had broken. It can be fixed, but it's probably better to take a few minutes and check your bike and make sure you wires aren't rubbing weird. If put your bike on the center stand then turn your front wheel back and forth, you can see the cable being dragged back and forth against body parts. I think over time, it just wore out and broke. I have 13,000 miles on the bike. I disassembled the plug, and fixed the broken wire. Then I plugged it into the speedometer cable and it worked. Then using electrical tape, I taped the wire to another cluster of wires above it to keep it from rubbing. Or at least I hope it doesn't rub.
