yes learn to change both engine and gear oil. it is literally so simple a monkey could be trained to do it. if you can turn a bolt one way and then the other and know how to pour stuff from a bottle its a done deal
i can only tell you i did NOTHING to my scooter for 11,000 MILES except change the tires, oils, brakes, and clean the air filter. thats it
then i checked the valves and they required minor adjustment. i changed the spark plug because i could, and charged the battery. i had the belt and rollers changed and the clutch / CVT "cleaned." i swapped the ignition coil and fuse and cdi just because i could. and the fuel filter for the same reason, as well as the air filter. i bled the brakes. i have rode for over 6,000 more miles without doing anything more but what i did during the first 11,000 miles
i am not saying neglect your scooter. but this is my experience as well as others. i ride hard and all year round
