Rear tires

My back tire is bald, so I thought it would be a good time to start a thread on rear tire mileage. So hear go's. What make and model of rear tires has anyone used in the past, and how many miles did it last before replacement? And or what tire do you use now/ And how does it look at what ever miles you have on it now? This should be a good topic as tires have gone up in price quite a bit in the last few years, and we could all use a good long lasting tire. I am leaning towards the Avon viper strike, or the new Michelen pure pilot.

Well, I'm getting a set of Michelin Pilot Power Pures installed tomorrow.  The concept of dual compound is a good one in that it helps keep the tire profile round.

Here is a picture of the Maxxis that came on my new-to-me Xciting with 5K and seven years on it, apparently mostly straight line riding from the looks of the flat spot.  That flat spot makes handling tricky, especially low speed.   Just my 2 cents.

Had Maxxis (original tire) last about 4,400 miles.  Installed a Michelin City Grip, got over 9,000 miles.  Just installed another City grip and have about 2,000 miles so far and it's looking good to go another 8,000 I would say.  Good luck with your tire purchase!

Now have over 5k on rear and installed new front about 1k miles ago.  The bike is a totally different machine.  It is so much easier to steer with the new City Grip on front.

Oh, and the rear is 117.00 + tax from my local repair shop.  Front is 98.00, for a total of 330.00 installed before tax.  I probably could buy the tires cheaper online, but think is is important to support and develop a relationship with a local business.

Wow 9000 on the city grip! Thats pretty good. I am leaning toward the pilot pure dual compound because Avon made or makes the AM 20 & 21 tires, they were dual compound, and I got 20,000 on the rear of my beemers. This is why I am considering the Avon also, it is not a dual compound, but I know they make a good tire. Let's keep the thread going. Anyone else who has info on their tires? I'm going to order a new tire soon.

Avon viper strike on 2007 xc250 4500 miles. Avon Viper Strike 2009 Xc500 4800 miles.  New City Grips on front and back.  I dont care how many miles i get.  The city grips ride better.  The city grips stick better.  The speedo is more accurate with the city grips.  The city grips make less noise. The city grips are better.

Thanks, 4500 miles on a 250. Not so good. I guess I will order the M pilot pure or what ever it is called and hope its at least as good as the city grip?

I wish I had a picture of the original tire prior to changing, but the MAXXIs I had lasted about 6000 miles before the cords started to show.  Dang things went from needing to be changed to... "Do you have some kind of a death wish to ride on these?"

That only took 300 miles....

I now have Michelin City Grips on the scoot.  I'm coming up on 10000 miles of useage (front and back).  I will probably change the rear out within the next 1000 miles.

Just had a set of Michelin city grips installed. Got about 1000 miles on them so far. What a beautifull ride. Heard good things about the Michelins....glad I got em. Much better feel than stock.

I got Chen Shin Tires for my bike and I found no problem with this rear tires yet now. And, it's runs around 3000 mile and I am driving frequently with this tire.
