Deer Warning Whistle Mount
« on: July 18, 2013, 08:32:00 PM »
A few of my regular routes requires a stretch of road that is prone to deer crossing.  I found these "Deer Warning System" whistles that you mount on your vehicle.  I saw them a month ago at a dollar store in black, but I wanted chrome, so I got these at Canadian Tire for $10.

The best spot I could find is on the front fender, as the instructions say they should be as near the front of the vehicle as possible.

Most of our Sheriff Deputy squad cars have had these installed - for night travel on rural Ohio roads. Lots of deer around here.
I frequent the county garage in my job duties - and see the results of deer strikes on these big Crown Victoria Police Interceptors. Some months  there are 2 or 3 deer strikes.

According to the two mechanics, these deer whistles aren't worth a Tinker's Dam. But hey - they probably don't attract deer - so my advice is - just don't barrel up to a heard of deer at 50mph, expecting them to dive for cover as you whistle up an approach!
Night driving with deer around; slow down. It's what I do with my car a mile from here, at night.

Yikes, I just read about these on wiki and the popular belief is that there is no way for them to work. I cant stand how some marketers operate and are allowed to basically lie...I think its even proven that these dont alert deer and theres no evidence it is even in their hearing range!

If nothing else the chrome looks cool as an extra accent so even if it does no good it looks cool and is reflective. :D

I should go buy some well-being magnets to take my stress away...

I bet some forum buddies could tell you how to put some LEDs in there.
And please don't make light of stress magnets.....or pyramids...or copper bracelets. I have been working out how to attach my magnetic pyramid which is fashioned from copper commo wire by an ex-Viet Minh colonel. I found it in the accessories case at the local Chinese scooter imporium.

I just occasionally blast my air horns as I'm riding through areas that I know are prone for deer to cross the road.  I know deer can hear them!!!
