Belt Issues!.... please help!!!!
« on: September 07, 2013, 05:45:04 AM »
ok so I have a 2012 kymco agility 50 and when I first got it I installed the ncy trans kit. shredded a belt after 5 months replaced it then installed a new gates power link and after another 5 months shredded it. then just bought a new one (off brand) same size and its been a week and it shredded tonight! before installing I realized that the aluminum starter gear drive plate that came with the trans kit was a little different than the factory and had grooves wore in it bad from the belt so I put the factory variator, wieghts, and the starter gear drive plate in and obviously that did not last but 4 days. anyone had this problem with trans kit, or not, and any ideas on what could be causing this or ideas on trouble shooting this problem. I'm going to have to get another belt tomorrow anyway because this is my only transportation I'm also thinking about buying a factory clutch and rear drive plate assembly to get back to square one. we will see! thanks for any help or ideas!!!!

The Gates power link belt is a kevlar version! So that idea is out. I know this cuz I work for a NAPA auto parts store and I sell 2 to 3 scooter belts a week. If you have all your old variator and clutch parts? I'd put those back in and run scooter for awhile and see how scoot does. If variator came with lighter roller weights? I'd probably run those instead of factory rollers. From what I've seen the Agility scooters seem to rev better and pull a lil harder with lighter weights.
Drive it like you stole it! Lol......

This has happened twice going down hills and I think I has come to a decent reasoning and that is letting of the throttle to hard and the belts shack and that is what is causing them to shred everything was back stock this time but the belt was a little small size this time so thats probably why it was ruined after 4 days. we'll see though. and dang I didnt think about going to napa cuz all the stores I know of are either closed or dont have the right original factory size. thanks.

Sounds like the belt is rideing to high on the vareator and eather hiting the starter bendix or the spines on the plate.
