rain / slipping belt

I have not experienced this yet but, why is this happening?.

Why would a scooter be made/designed in a way to cause the drive belt to slip in the rain.
Is there a simple fix for this?

Most riders do not intend to ride in the rain but, everyone that rides a lot will eventually get caught in a downpour.
A malfunction like this, especially on a trip way away from home is discerning to say the least.
Could cause the belt to overheat and break.
Any ideas?.

A scooter in a proper state of tune will not belt slip in the rain. I ride year-round, and my belts do not slip.

Only time I had a slightly slipping belt was with a defect rotary shaft seal and engine oil coming into the variomatic.
You may ride during monsoon rain over flooded roads if only the ventilation does not suck water.

I have seen more than one post on this subject. There is one on ADvrider right now. The guy was on a long trip riding a GT, got caught in a heavy rain and drive belt started to slip when climbing hills.

Trucker jay, GT forum posted that he had experienced the same thing.

I have no problems in the rain.... Maybe a worn cvt gasket?

I actually left my fibre gasket off on my Bet and Win and the Downtown 300i. The bikes are ridden year-round in the rain. The case halves seem to seal fine. My belts don't slip.

I guess those GT riders should open up the CVT after they encounter slippage in the rain and see if water is really getting in.

I think my SO's Downtown might have had a plugged injector though. There is a slipping sensation or inability to rev smoothly at partial throttle, but no slip at wide open throttle. The whole transmission I've taken apart and cleaned thoroughly a few times. Clutch surface and bell perfect. 'Slipped' in the dry. Dealer mechanic suggested fuel cleaner in case the injector holes for partial throttle were plugged. Downtown shares engine with People GT 300.

I run my ZX50s and honda elites with half cover and zero slip in the rain. If its slipping the belt is bad.

Yes, keep the belt dry.  Don't drill holes in the belt cover, don't ride through deep water, don't ride with the belt cover off, don't replace the belt cover without its gasket.

Mine has less than 4,000 miles on it, maybe 2,400 when the belt slipped in the rain.  I never had the cover off and zero mods
