Top Case
« on: October 18, 2013, 05:25:46 AM »
The red Yamaha Riva I have came with a top case, it's convenient so I put these top cases on the back of my new scooter to see which one I like better.

Hard to tell from the close up night photos which could be the better fit. You're welcome to throw in your opinions.

I will not be using the Givi, I plan to use Shad.

Me likes!

What size eng is on that 250s of yours and whats the top end?

My 2002 is only 163cc and tops out about 57 mph, and at that it sounds like a blender that's about to pop it's top, I never go there unless merging onto a highway for a short run, once in the slow lane I drop down to about 50MPH for until the exit comes up.

The S250 has a 249cc engine.  Strange in the scooter world but 250 scooters have 250 (approx) engines.  Scooters with a 200 designation mostly are less.  From 160 to 180.  There are a few 200's that are true 200cc scoots.  The new People and the Vespa 200 (not brought to the US any more) are 200's.  There may be others but not many.

As Mr Johnson (I say Mr, Johnson as that sounds like a last name I hate just calling him Johnson, doesn't seem right) states, it is a 249 and I looked at the engine size prior to purchasing a scooter.

When I talk top speed I like to state what is a realistic attainable top speed without much effort.

On my 200 Riva, top speed is rated at 74, I can realistically hit an indicated 65, I can lay down with no wind on a flat surface and hit higher, to me that is not realistic.

I bought this with 356 miles on it and have not had it at top speed yet (not ridden it enough), bringing the scooter home I was hitting an indicated 75-77 on a flat level road and I think I was close to max with not much left. I think I have read others hitting 80-85 but I don't think that would be an easy obtainable speed in most conditions. Any incline in the road and it was WOT maintaining 73-75.

Others might have a different experience as I have only put on 150 miles in the last 2-weeks and 100 of that on easy Sunday type drives.

Hey thanks to both for your replies (Mr. Johnson and the OP) The speeds you mention sound realistic and high enough for any need I might have if I did make my mind up to move up in size. I'll have to look up the dimensions of your scoot to see if it will still fit in my garage, but if it does that would be a strong plus.

that last picture looks good ,.on your scooter , I have a downtown 300i  with a E 55 givi box , the only thing I dont like is the lights are to small on the box, for the size try out what you would like to put in the box, I can put a full face helmet and my jacket and not to much more,.  under seat, my tools take most of the space, impack hammer driver ,etc.,just if I need to change the belt , one of these days I will put the new belt on so I can leave some tools at home,. 35,000 km. on belt so far,. and it still look like new.,

The E55 is a Big Case, in fact the largest you can get that I know of. Mine is mostly for around town and minor grocery shopping. For helmets I might be putting this on the back end. I have one on my cruiser and like it okay.

How many miles can you put on a belt, you have a bunch on yours still to look new?

I had no issues taking this 250 on the freeway and it felt solid, not like my other scooter. For me it needs a taller shield and Mr Johnson has one coming in and suppose to give me a review.

Not sure how they determine if these belts are worn too much on the Kymco's, on the Yamaha Riva I measure the width, as long as that is fine and the belt in good repair you keep going.

Looking at your photo of your really nice scoot - Just curious here.....
Did you hi-jack a semi-load of scooter parts, or...........?

"We", you're a dealer?
OK, why only a big 300cc PEOPLE this year?
What happened to the smaller engined People's? Surely they were good sellers?
(FYI- UPS just delivered my BESTEM 929 w/lights to my door - but I can't have it yet . It's for Xmas!)
Thx, Stig
