OIL Change Syringe avail WalMart
« on: October 20, 2013, 12:27:37 AM »
Hunted all over the place for this without finding one---- even walked the isles of WalMart. Bought a syringe from a farm implement store that does not work for gear oil changes on my scoot.
Then I found this on-line back at WalMart. Paid for it on-line and picked it up today.
Now I can buy quarts of synthetic gear oil and properly measure how much I'm putting in. Those pointy quart bottles are nice - but can't use them to put in my gear oil.
$3.37 +tax and comes with a small bit of clear tubing - which will fit the small gear-oil opening on my Kymco LIKE 200i.

(folks here told me about this item....but searching the isles was fruitless - had to use my DELL to find it in WalMart)

Use a plastic drinking straw extension.

....because the oil cannot be measured. Only works if your vehicle is a 'fill till it comes out the hole' type. Mine takes a specific amount.

Per Section 3 of the Like 200i service manual . . .
"The gear oil level shall be at the oil check bolt hole. If the oil level is low, add the specified oil to the proper level."

Well, Ill be!
First time I've ever seen this information. I just put the specified amount in last night for winter riding. I will take a flashlight and have a look in the fill hole to see if 180ml brought it to the lip of the fill hole. If it is correct (other parts of this on-line manual are incorrect - like no reed valves in our scoot, and we do not use 2 stroke oils, do not have kick start, etc. etc.) it will make gear oil changes a LOT easier. Thanks.

Stig, I would bet that the manual is incorrect....seems to be a common problem with Kymco scooter owner's manuals.  Asked the same question years ago when I bought my P150.  I would guess that you would have way too much oil in it if you added to the fill hole.  Check your transmission cover and see if it says "0.18L" on it.

Thanks for your input Calothrix~!

No, nothing written on the scoot - but several published places indicate that the "drain & fill amount is 0.18L" for the LIKE - and rebuild amount is something like 0.21L
for instance:

Filling
"Fill the final drive oil with the correct amount."
"Gear Oil Capacity:
At change : 0.181 liter
At disassembly : 0.21 liter"

I just changed my gear oil for the winter temps (Mobil 1 75W/90 - thanks folks for advice ) but the next time I go out to lay on the cold garage floor and do it again I will look to see if the level is at the fill hole, or....?

Has anyone measured and filled to the fill hole??!!

It's actually pretty easy to get an exact measurement with just the oil bottle, measuring cup and a sharpie:  Mark the bottle at full, squeeze the oil into a clean cup to the correct spec, mark the bottle again, pour the oil back into the bottle,  then squeeze the oil into the bike. (I had a dyslectic moment with the decimal point never mind me I post great pictures of women).  Drinking straw is a bonus!

But I like you're Walmart find Stig, thanks for sharing!

I have to get a cheap measuring cup.....the Mrs gets a little excited when I drain oil or antifreeze into her nice Pyrex cups. Plus, the kids wonder about their oatmeal measured from the same, afterwards.

I did look at my 32 oz bottle of Mobil 1, marked where a withdrawal  of 6oz would be, then used my new syringe mit/tuben to pull out 3 loads of 60ml from der grossen bottle, et bingo! We have 180ml in der skoot, and 26oz left in der Mobil buddle. Happy peoples in The Great Republic und mit der Ohio!

(Though I was born in Germany, the only German I can speak is, "Don't shoot!" - from various movies. FYI: here is a handly little phrase to use if you are at a border crossing:

Bitte nicht schießen den Roller~!

"Please don't shoot the scooter!"

A great scooter moment from our past..........

PS: Cosmo, please stay on your medication while you're searching up all these young ladies with trouser troubles.
