malossi variator..best roller setup?
« on: August 12, 2009, 03:21:49 AM »
I have a malossi multivar variator kit comin tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone had a recommended setup as far as the rollers.
The routes I take have good amount of hills so i need to keep that in mind, but i would also like a top speed of around 45mph if possible. Ive done the CDI cut and Im installing a #82 jet when I install the variator tomorrow.

thanks

I put 5.5g rollers in my scooter and it gave me much better acceleration and better mid range power also.

I am also running 5.5 w/ the heaviest clutch springs. I weigh 200 lbs, and this combo works great. In a hilly area you may want to step down on the clutch springs though. The rollers just add a better feel to the throttle giving you more access to the usable power band

I saw someone on here who had installed all 6 rollers and said it was a bit sluggish mid range..then he just had 3 rollers and it worked out alot better. so I was just tryin to figure out whether to go with 3 or 6 rollers.

...that might have been me...I had tried running three 9 gram rollers, for a total of 27 grams...and running three of those was really quick...however, the rollers, and the variator itself were wearing out quickly...

..It's my conclusion that one should never run 3 rollers...I never will...

does anyone know the weight of the rollers that come in the stock agility variator? My malossi came with 6gram so if the stock rollers are lighter I may choose to use them.

also im hearing a sound now that I installed the malossi variator with the malossi rollers..kind sounds like it could be the rollers. Is this normal?

it comes stock with 6g rollers I run 5.5g, and mine also rattles until it warms up for a while and still rattles a bit around 38mph. I'm not sure what the noise is but on my scoot its just a little annoying it doesn't seem to be doing any harm. I assumed it was the rollers wiggling around in the variator. If you find out what it is for sure let me know.

Did your acceleration improved much with the new variator? What differences did you notice?

well I installed the variator with the rollers that came with the scooter..which apparentely are the same weight as the ones that come with the new variator(i thought they might be a little lighter which is why i put them in). The first thing I noticed is that acceleration was a bit slower but I can now reach top speeds of around 45mph(37mph before i installed). but keep in mind that I also had a restricted drive boss face before I installed the variator kit. so I dont know if it was the new variator that gave me the new top speed of the unrestricted variator. I have yet to install a #82 main jet on the carb..thatll be next..it has a #80 right now.

its a shame..i took my scooter out after i installed everything and the roads were a lil wet with leaves but the tires were gripping well and then i was pulling into my brothers driveway at about 10mph..the front wheel slid..the scooter slipped right out from under me. scratched up the body and bent the left brake lever and left turn signal. I think it slid cause the tires are still fresh..the scooter is 5 days old :/ anyone know where I can get a new brake lever?

...gotta watch those front brakes under wet condition...

..they're disc brakes, as opposed to drum on the rear...they grab a lot quicker...

stadium yamaha or kymco parts on line. Stadium is usually the cheapest, and Kymco pol is usually the fastest on deliv.
