What's your favorite scooter modification for $150 or less?
« on: October 27, 2013, 05:05:00 PM »
I have about $150 that is earmarked for my scooter, kind of a Christmas fund. I want to know what kind of mods you have on your scoot that would be under or around that amount. I already have a top case, windshield, and battery tender pigtails on it. So if you had $150, what would you add (or have already added) to your scooter? (By the way, I have a Lance PCH 150 scooter - not a Kymco, but it's the replacement for my P 150 that was totaled recently.) thanks in advance for any ideas you can share!

I second the tires, even if you have a new scoot the tires that came on it are likely B grade at best.

A GoPro helmet cam would be cool.   8)

I installed this Ram Mount X-Grip for my phone, use it for a speedo and GPS and gives it a home so I don't have to worry about it falling from my pocket.

Normal is boring.

I agree. New tires are always a good thing for your bike. The more grip you have, the better the bike is.

Got to agree with the tires.  I like that mount too.  Amazon here I come!

I've added a bunch of LED lights as extra running and brake lights. Got most of them from superbrightleds.com but don't remember what I spent.

The one mod that only cost a few bucks but is very convenient is adding a garage door remote. I took a remote I already had, soldered a two conductor wire to the leads and soldered the wire to a button from Radio Shack. I installed the button through the seat tub just under the seat so I can reach down and push it then ride into the garage. Super convenient.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I just replaced the helmet because of the accident, so I'm set there, and the seat is actually very comfortable. But I didn't even think about new tires - great idea! My tire sizes are: rear 130/70-12; front 120/70-12. Any suggestions on brands and styles? I'd love to look at a set of new tires soon.

Keep those ideas coming! Thanks!

AVGuy, the extra lights are also a great idea. Always good to have more visibility in traffic. Thanks for the info!

Tires, but I'd have to put them on myself to come in at $150.
Otherwise: better mirrors and an Iridium plug and a pack of Dr Pulley sliders.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Not to sound like a total newbie, but what's the difference between sliders and rollers, and why are sliders better? I know rollers - had to replace them on my daughter's scoot - but haven't seen sliders.

my favorite mod would be storage, comfort, or tech solutions like a mounted GPS or something. or something cosmetic / aesthetic like mirrors, lights, etc. might even get some functionality out of some things meant for style

i would not get new tires, myself. i'd live with the ones on the scooter until worn. i would not change to sliders or get a different muffler or touch anything mechanically. not that i would not consider it, i'd just consider it after i got some good use out of  the stock stuff
