Could a LIKE be built like this?
« on: November 05, 2013, 07:56:06 PM »

When commenting on the massive (read, 'heavy')  and rather unsophisticated design of the 'pipe' frame used on the LIKE - this is the kind of thing I was thinking about.
A diecast aluminum frame - with all the mounting points, etc. cast into this lighter frame. It is an advanced way of building a scooter - which Yamaha has used on its Majesty - and except for the extra price of a few lbs of aluminum it seems like it should cost little more than an unsophisticated iron pipe frame once you are past the engineering phase and on to the production floor.

However, I fully understand that I am riding a very good scooter at a bargain price.....
At $2700 this is a lot of scooter! (and those who can find one with low miles from riders who hardly broke them in - are paying a whole lot less than that! I've seen them for $1200.)
Did anyone here buy one at the orig. offered price of $3399?

I paid $3300 out the door, but that included the windshield and was a cash price, not a finance price.

Pipe frames are simple, robust, and easy to manufacture...

I paid just under $3000 OTD back in March. There was a local dealer that had two Likes on craigslist last weekend for just under $2000. That should be under $2500 OTD. What a steal!

I paid $3100 out the door with title and insurance but I do know of a lady who bought a 2011 and paid the original MSRP of $3400 Plus delivery and title. She did not get any shop rebate either! There is a scooter that uses a light weight monocoque chassis. It's called a Vespa.

They may be passing along dealer incentives. Are they a new dealer or a new Kymco dealer? Could be they are selling as a loss leader to bring in business. Then again, maybe Kymco us replacing the Like with a new retro model. I wish they made a Like in a 300 or 350 cc model.
