CDI issues on 2005 zx50 Super fever
« on: November 16, 2013, 11:56:56 PM »
Hi, first post :)

I have a 2005 ZX 50 Super fever and it's been giving me problems getting to top speed, especially on rainy days.  After much searching I determined that my CDI is screwy and I want to replace it with an unrestricted one.  Problem is, I can't tell if I need a DC or an AC unit.

Also, I read about how to splice the two green wires to make the unit unrestricted, but I'm not sure if it will solve my problems, or will it still act screwy.

Definition of acting screwy: Sometimes when I hit a bump, top speed drops to 20 and won't correct until the unit is shut down and sits awhile.  When I hold throttle all the way, top speed is 25 or so.  I can get up to 30, and sometimes 35, by holding the throttle at half, but it takes a mile or more to get up to that speed.

I'm looking to order an unrestricted unit, but not sure if my unit is ac or dc. Part# id KCX J100

look at chapter 15-7 in the service manual, ( Google for link to PDF file)
