LIKE clunking on bumps
« on: December 01, 2013, 04:16:45 PM »
Finally figured out that the clunking I hear sometimes when I hit a bump is not my tools under the seat - but the unsecured battery flopping about.
Placed rebond foam under and around the the battery, snug enough that it resists bouncing up & down, or moving side-to-side. The noise is gone now.

Thanks Stig! I'm not sure mine does that or not. I'll have to go over a speed bump and see.

Your battery has no rubber retainer belt of some sort?

Ok, on my way home from Disneyland this evening I went fast through a dip and no clunk. Next time I do a valve clearance check I'll see what I have in my battery compartment. I don't remember anything like a strap, but I'll see.

There is no tie down strap to hold the battery down. The battery box is built into the plastic floorboard. It's big enough to handle most 3rd party batteries. Stig's solution is a good one especially if the battery is smaller than the supplied OEM.

Here's what's holding my Super 8's battery in place... a wide rubber strap on top...

Vivo,
I've also found that a ham and cheese on rye sandwich placed carefully on top of the battery will hold it securely in place when you mash the cover back on.
Plus you will have emergency provisions if your battery dies at the Mall.
I'm keeping matches and newspaper in the top box now - cheaper than an electric vest and gloves.

I am not scared to go real fast - I just don't see all that well with my eyes closed .....and the screaming upsets the neighbors.

You're riding a LIKE around Downey California in the middle of the day?
In 1967 the traffic was crazy 'round there!....has it gotten better since then?
I had a buddy who lived in Downey - getting there from W. Covina on my little Honda was a death defying act that always left me wrung out.

Probably a lot more traffic then whee you are at Stig. Yeah, I go there on my scooter all hours of the day. It's probably not real smart, but I sometimes ride home late at night too. Usually I try to keep it in the daylight hours.
I ride from Huntington Beach to Anaheim. It's about a forty minute ride or so on surface streets. I know all the best roads to get there. The ones with the fewest blind intersections, best street lights, etc.
I'm a huge Disney fan. I go almost every weekend at least for a couple hours.

Lucky dog! I go once a year for 5 days from gate open to gate close. Love Disneyland!
