Gas leak again.

Today I filled the tank as usual to just above the neck base bar. When I got home I parked it in the garage and went inside. 15 minutes later I went back out to the garage to check on the laundry and was met with a strong smell of gas. There was a puddle of fuel under the scooter. This is the second time thus has happened to me. I'm thinking it may have been caused by a vacuum that was created when a replaced the fuel cap. It wasn't all that warm today. May be 68 at the time of the fill-up. Anyone else ever have this issue?

Yes, it has happened to me twice now as well.  Just filling it up to the bar, rode to the house which is 1/2 of a mile from the gas station, parked, and later had a puddle of fuel.  So now, if I fill up, I take about a 10 mile ride then I park it.  Otherwise I fill it up at the beginning of a trip.

It's only happened once in 4600 miles with me. Use the kickstand if you're tank is near full, not the center stand. It won't happen then unless t is REALLY full.

I general ride about 20 miles after a fill up do to the first time it happened. Yesterday I went straight home after filling up, about 4 miles away. Looks like I have an excuse when I tell my wife I'm going out to fill up. I'll just have to tell her it we be an hour before I'm back.

I always use the kick stand, and both times it has leaked it was on the kick stand. 


The only time I use the center stand is if I am parking off of a concrete or paved spot, or I am checking tire pressures or doing maintenance on it.

Odd. My experience is this. I have filled up and ridden just shrt distances to home and parked in my garage. Always on the kickstand, and never once got the puddle of gas. The only time I got the puddle is when I parked it on the center stand with a full tank, and the tank was just barely to the bar.

Just checked my tank - because I filled up today & rode home 2.5 miles.
Filled to the bar, and it is just barely below that now.
No leaks. Never had one. Once or twice made a mistake & filled above the bar - still no leaks.
Other than swinging into my driveway, I take only two or three turns for several miles after filling.
Perhaps your gas is sloshing up to the vent tube in the neck of the tank? You're not scraping the pegs like Vivo are you?

A scooter leaking gas: is a fuel line connection leaking while still under pressure on a parked scoot?
Is a fuel line leaking slowly while riding?
Is the scooter running hot - under seat area very, very hot ?- and expanding the gas?

The side stand does tip the scooter slightly away from the vent tube in the neck.

Thinking out loud here....I would make sure not to fill to the bar in the tank.
If the level is not at or close to the bar - and I'm no longer seeing leaks no matter how I park it - I'd rest easy.

Do you see any wetness in the rubber tray around the gas cap when you see a leak? ie: is the gas cap seal leaking when the gas is sloshing about in a filled tank? That tray drains below the scoot if you spill while filling.

(68 degrees....you are a lucky kymco person! I'm going to check out the stupid city bus line Friday as the snow & sleat comes to town. Can't complain too much: December and only missed 2  morning work rides so far - caged home for lunch & rode the LIKE back. Cold is no issue - but not going to get stupid on ice.....unless Santa brings me a side-car. Then all bets are off!!)

When mine leaked, it did not leak from the plastic cup from around the gas cap.  It actually leaked out of the air filter housing.  I'm pretty sure the fuel was going into the EVAP system, and then once it was turned off it leaked down the vacuum hose into the air box. 



Ohh, and I am working on scraping in the turns!!  There are a couple of really tight but smooth turns that I have been playing on.  They are 20 mph corners (the speed limit around those corners) but I am up to 35 mph going around them so far.  The Michelin Pilot Sport rear tire really inspires confidence!!!

Both times when mine leaked it was on the center stand just after filling up. The first time it happened I road home straight from the gas station and added 1.5 ounces of SeaFoam. I did not notice the level after filling with the additive and figured when I replaced the gas cap that the level must have been high enough to push up into the overflow tube. The second time gas puddled up under the scooter was purely a fill up. What I failed to do since the first incident was ride for about 20 miles before putting it away. I use the bar as an indicator so I can get a fairly accurate mpg stat. Looks like I'll be going back to a 20 mile ride after each fill up. Oh well

I think if you're doing 35 in a 20 corner - your gas is staying flat as a pancake in the tank - relative to the scooter's orientation!
Wish I was your tire salesman......those Pretty Pure Screaming Sports aren't cheap!

I think if you're doing 35 in a 20 corner - your gas is staying flat as a pancake in the tank - relative to the scooter's orientation!

I found this tire on clearance and got it, shipped to my house for $50!! 



I took the same corner yesterday at 40 mph!  I'm wondering how much faster I can go before I start scrapping?
