can a agility meet my needs
« on: December 07, 2013, 06:25:14 AM »
I am new and preparing to purchase my first scooter. I would like to go with a 2013 agility 50. Although I am not sure if it meets my needs, I am new to scooters but I do have some basic knowledge. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

-Would it be possible to occasionally (like once every month to 2 months also our combined weights only around 225 pounds) ride double on a short and fairly flat area?

-Is this a reliable scooter?

-How is its speed?

-Is there any real difference between a 2012 and a 2013? My dealership has both for $1400 and $1500.

Reliability:  Very reliable

Speed:   About 40mph or less

Capacity:  Yes, it can carry 225 lbs. on a short, flat area... even a long and not so flat area...

2012 and 2013? Not sure about that...

Recommendation:  Buy it!

not sure if it meets my needs
Location . . speed and use expectations . . why a 50cc?  The most frequent regret is NOT initially selecting at least a 125cc scooter.  Include Lance in your research.

Yep. I would take the advice above.
A 50cc scooter IMO is marginal for anything other than a college campus. I know that many will disagree just my .02.

I always buy leftovers. Its rare that anything but cosmetics changes.
That said they do on occasion add things like EFI so search the specs.

Thanks you all for the advice and I would love to have something larger but right now I must go with a 50cc. I don't have license and probably will be unable to get it for another year to 2 and a half years. I was curious could a like 50 lx or a super 8 better meet my needs?

O.K., understand it has to be a 50cc.
I sure would look real hard for a very lightly used Kymco or Lance 50cc scooter.
Seems to me you will be paying about $500 too much if you buy from the dealer's new scooter assortment.
$1500 is in the price range of a lightly used 163cc Kymco !!
Save 1/4 to 1/3 or your $$ and look for a 'left-over' (brand new scoot from previous yr , with full warranty, which did not sell) or a lightly used scooter. Put that $ you saved into safe riding gear!

Based on the sketchy context so far, perhaps another "liquor cycle" situation.  If so, future queries may include how to make a 50cc go faster because "the laws don't apply to me".

Haha :) Actually its a issue related with school where I live we must meet certain qualifications in our schooling to take drivers education and get our permit. Due to a pretty hectic year last year I am afraid I have fell behind and I need transportation for work. My current mode of transportation is bicycling and that's not working out so well.

Lots of us start small, then doesnt like the "speed".. then upgrades...then buys a bigger one... then doesnt like... then buys a bigger one.. and so on and so forth... Usually ends in a 500cc...  ;)  I started with a 125cc... after 2 years, I want a 400cc...

If you live in an urban and congested area where the road speed limit is less than 35 (or 25) mph, I found the agility 50 is working really well. It could get you to places faster than cars could in the congested streets.

I commuted from one side of Minneapolis to the other every day on one of these for a few years. It handled the task just fine. It became a "guilty 50" fairly quickly, simply because of the need for a little more shove uphill on a couple of stretches of my route.

Additional context . . Michigan:
"A moped is a two- or three-wheeled vehicle with a motor not exceeding 100cc engine displacement. The moped must have a power drive system that does not require shifting gears and cannot have a top speed exceeding 30 mph on level surfaces."

What's the basis? the actual engine specs? because they still call 101 cc or 102 cc engines 100cc... and these engines already exceed 100cc...
