I take it you live in South Florida because the street I live on is Tarpon Drive. Good blog.

My scooter trips are pretty uneventful unless someone gets close to knocking me down. I ride to and from work mostly, 6 miles each way. Other then that I grab some bagles or other light stuff from the store.

The biggest adventure on my scoot was the first time I took it out on a 35MPH county road, into "traffic" - so I could go 1/2 mile to the school lot to practice.
I had my son follow me in a car to keep me from getting run over as I rode along scaring myself at 25mph.
I made the turn into the lot without getting killed.
I put about 250 miles on the scoot in that lot over the next couple of weeks.
Then I road it 3.5 miles to work, and back.
On my way home that very first day I came upon a small young lady who had dropped her new Harley dead in the middle of a 50mph / 35mph intersection at a stop sign. My very first day - and here is a motorcycle wreck! It was all I could do to get that thing back up on its wheels for her. That shook me up!
It wasn't really a wreck. she just dropped it when she stalled it at the stop sign. Tiny girl. Big bike.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I'm going to cheat a little, I really wanted to ride to this little lake spot up north but couldn't, so I drove my late minivan.  Anyway I just happened upon this little lady as the magic was happening and time stood still for a bit.

Thinking back on it I'm not sure I grew but for a brief moment realized my place in the grand scheme of things.
Normal is boring.

I have see that happen too.  You need to have a bike that is best suited for you.  When I first started looking around for a bike I was amazed that the salespeople were trying to get me onto 1200 to 1600 cc monsters.

That being said I am 6 foot tall and 210 pounds.  I'm not a "small guy" by any means...but I was also brand new to the sport and did not want to kill myself.

Several trips into low mountain range (Vosges, Black Forest, Kaiserstuhl [dont know if there is an English word for it], Thuringian Forest, Saxonian sandstone mountains) and my IBA ride.
2 Pictures from Saxonia:

And 1 from Simson museum in Suhl-Thuringia (former GDR manufacturer of 50cc 2-stroke bikes)
