Electronic turn signal flasher after LED turn signal upgrade
« on: January 05, 2014, 12:37:17 AM »
I just upgraded my front turn signals to LED ones and so now the turn signals flash fast because of the turn signal flasher module.  So, has anyone upgraded to an electronic flasher to fix this issue, and if so, where did you get it from and what was the model number on it?     Thanks...........

btw, even though it is winter I am still riding.  On Monday morning it is supposed to be 20 degrees.  It's going to be a cold commute!

Which LED did you install? [picture ?]
Why did you install the LED?
Is it actually brighter from all angles .....or just from straight ahead like some LED Xmas lights?
Yeah, that quick flash bugaboo stops most of us from putting these in, that and because so many of these are poorly made and burn out quickly.

These are the ones that I bought;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-13-5050-SMD-LED-Signal-Turn-Bulbs-Amber-Scooter-Ba15s-Bau15s-1093-1156-/390737964745?pt=Other_Vehicle_Parts&hash=item5af9cc2ec9&vxp=mtr

As far as why I installed them, it is to decrease the electrical load on the charging system since I plan on adding more electronic devices to my Like in the future.

If you look at our turn signals, it has a built in reflector to help direct the light out.  No, these LEDs do not broadcast like a normal bulb do, and I have yet to find an LED bulb that does.  But quit frankly, these bulbs do a good job at throwing the light out there to be seen and the light is bright.

When buying the LED bulbs, there are some things to keep in mind.

1.  They have come a LONG way in the last couple of years in regards to reliability and brightness.
2.  The ubber cheap bulbs are still out there and still use the older components so they won't last long, nor will they put out much light.
3.  The SMD LEDs are light years better than the older traditional bulb style LEDs.

I have been running a set of basic 194 LED bulbs for the driving lights since March and they are still going strong, even with having them in there for over 3,000 miles.  I also am using a set of H3 LED driving lights attached to my mirror mounts.  These are wired to my low beam headlight output and work as driving lights.  My high beam headlight is an HID setup that pulls the same current as the stock headlight does and this is only used for riding at night as the amount of light it puts out is so much better than the stock headlight.

Later I will be upgrading my tail lights to LEDs as well and putting LEDs in for the rear turn signals.  I need to get a new flasher for it first though.

It sounds like you know what you are doing electrical-wise.
If no one supplies any information, the solid state flashers don't differ much and almost any will work.
You just need a parts store that has flasher out where you can view them.

Do you know where the scooter's  flasher is located ?
If so, remove and take it to any auto parts store.  Try to match to mounting design but mainly get the same number of connectors.
A few tries and you should be able to connect it correctly.

But hopefully someone will have the answer for you.

Scoot Safely,

I do know where it is located, but it is a pain to get to.  You have to remove the panel in front of the knee panel to gain access to it.  I was hoping someone else had already replaced theirs so I could just use a part number to get the right one without having to take my truck to parts stores in search of one that will work.  My Like has spoiled me on the fuel economy!!
