Windshield
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:11:45 AM »
Got my 300GTI and love it. I'd like to get a windshield but am not interested in the Givi. I spoke to the guy at scooterville and the Biondi is no longer available. any suggestions?
Thanks

Too bad about the Biondi, I did not know that it is no longer available. The French Ermax makes a screen for the GTi and if you are in the States it is available at:  http://www.motomachines.com/  However, it took over 2 months for it to arrive.

I have been using the Biondi for awhile and just got a Ermax to see if it was any better and would have less wind noise. Despite having a little different shape they both seem to work about the same, and have the same wind noise (I plan to try a MRA spoiler next).  Both are the exact same height, but the Ermax is a bit wider on top and the Biondi flares out more and deflects the wind off the handgrips a little better. The Ermax mounts under the handlebars where the US spec turn signals are mounted (which need to be removed and changed to the integrated setup), and the Biondi mounts at the top where the mirrors mount. I don't think one mounting method is any better than the other. The Ermax blade seems to be slightly thicker and a little less flexible. I like the shape and styling of the Biondi better.

Nice scoot . I've looked at the Ermax. Would eliminating the Us turn signals effect my warranty? how tall are you? I'm 5'7" this might be a good fit.

Who knows about the warranty ramifications by eliminating the US turn signals. It would seem unreasonable if a mechanical issue was declined under warranty, but if an electrical issue?

I'm 5'9", so the height might be real good for you. You'll still be able to see over the windscreen. I got no head buffeting on either shields, but I am trying to eliminate as much of the wind noise at speed as I can. Ordered an MRA spoiler to try on it next.  Rode a friend's Suzuki "wee" strom recently and he had the windscreen set up on it where I heard practically no wind noise - very pleasant!

I guess I was lucky to get a Biondi from Scooterville when I could. For me the Biondi is perfect. I'm 5' 10" and the wind just hits the top of my helmet. I can see over the windshield, but can ride comfortably without a face shield. Haven't noticed any excessive wind noise but at 70 years old, my hearing might not be the best.

I don't get helmet buffeting per-se, but do get a fair amount of wind noise despite using ear plugs.  I use several different helmets including a Nolan full-face, Nolan flip-up, and HJC open face. I seem to get wind right in the face.  Its not bad, I just think with a little adjustment I can get it good and quiet.  Last summer I took the windsceen on and off. For around town I like not having it, but for sustained higher speeds it was more comfortable with it. Just looking for perfection, since the GTi is so close!  ;D

Thanks. Sorry I do not have a better picture of the windshield. It mounts pretty easy. Just remove the mirrors and mount the windshield in their place. Mirrors mount back on windshield frame. the windshield came fully assembled and with all the required hardware. The instructions are not in english,  but the pictures pretty self explanatory. Took less than 30 minutes to install. I forgot to mention that I ordered it through my dealer. cost was 169.99

Momma Bear. Not know whether would void your warranty, but it would get you in trouble here in the US. Regulations require a minimum distance between turn signals which is not met by virtually every foreign manufacturer - importer I can think of, so they have to install the little guys under your handlebars.

I recently installed a MRA spoiler on my Biondi windshield (also tried it on my Ermax) and was able to adjust it to deflect most of the wind away from my face. I mostly like to use an open face 3/4 helmet.  So far I like it.

I'm happy with my Biondi windshield the way it is, but I like those covers you have to protect your hands from the wind. Could you post a link to where you bought them?

They are Acerbis Flash handguards.  Got the idea from forum member - full of days. See thread:
http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=5395.0

I got mine through Amazon, and they were around $40 or so. Took off the handlebar weights to mount them, but doesn't seem to effect high speed stability as I run mine on the freeway alot.

Thanks for the quick response. I think I will look into buying them for my scoot.

alphabetadog, Which model MRA spoiler did you install? Does it clamp on or do you need to drill holes in windscreen? Thanks ahead!
