About to purchase an 03' super 9 lc... is it worth it?
« on: January 27, 2014, 07:47:27 AM »
A guy in my area is selling 2003 kymco super 9 lc.

He says that it runs strong and even qik'd me while he started it via kick start and drove it. It topped 50 and sounded in good condition. He didn't electric start because the battery is bad. I'm not too worried about that as I happen to have a new battery.

He told me the lowest he would go is 1000. It has 1500 miles on it.

Here is what his ad states and pictures are attached.

Hi I am selling my 2003 Kymco Super 9 liquid-cooled 50 cc Runs beautiful rides beautiful needs nothing at all Besides a battery.      Minus his contact info.

What are your thoughts on this? Is it a smart purchase? I don't know a lot about scooters and want to make sure I'm at least not getting ripped off. It doesn't have to be a steal, just don't want to be ripped off lol.

Thanks in advance for all the input.

JG

If if has no issues except for the battery its a fair price imho if it is in
"excellent" condition.
You can check kelley blue book for an idea on its value.
I think its right around what he is asking.
So that's my two cents except if you want one they don't often
come up with that low mileage. Usually in my area they are
$1000-$1500  when they do come up for sale, depending on the year.

I payed $850 for my 2004 with 2000 miles (km ) but I was lucky
that no one else was looking, I think. Came with 2 crash helmets a foot pump , manual and
a new cover !
Hope you get it , if its the one for you !

Yeah, when I called him and talked to him he said that he hadn't gotten any offers. After we talked and I expressed that I really wanted it, he jacked he the price 300. He did it so that hopefully Noone would want it and when I get my taxes I can b u y it at the 1k.

I would rather this for 1k then a 600 brand new chinese paperweight lol.

Bear in mind excellent means excellent. I noticed some road rash.
Check tires for tread and dry rotting. Also any damage takes away from that price too.
Just like a car , body damage takes away from the price.
When you get there with cash in hand you decide between yourselves, I guess.
Mine was one owner and garage kept. Check title to see if mileage matches.
It's very easy to swap the cluster for one with lower miles.
Also that $1000 excelent price includes the battery !

Good luck.

Personally if the deal feels good when you spoke with the individual I dont think you can really go wrong.

I just picked up a 2004 myself here in Denver and I got it for $1,100.  The thing was in pristine condition and the owner of it was very nice.  I even picked it over a 2003 version that was in just as good condition that was $100 less.  The owners of both bikes were very nice but in the end going for a year newer was the better deal.

You can't really go wrong with these babies as you can upgrade them so much it's scary!

When I originally lived in Madison, WI the owner of the local scooter shop turned me on to them and said the Super 9 was probably the best all around for the money scooter in the Kymco lineup for what all you could do with it.

Yes there were other scooters and the Kymco line is just amazing with build, quality, and performance.  But Im a larger (taller) guy and the Super 9 is so versitaile for what you can do with it.

Only other question to ask is where are the mirrors?  Those seem to be missing from the photo.
