V-Max a few years back.
It was my favorite of all the motorcycles I have owned over the years.
It was one fine machine.
After I sold it, I wished I hadn`t.

Mine was an 89 model, very low miles when I purchased.
Cherry red w/black scoops.
When the V-Boost kicked in, everything was a blur!.

yes the V-max is a monster..and a great ride to get some adrenaline up in the ole ticker. but hand down the most perfect ride is the 80 cb750....it rides so smooth it will put you to sleep if ya not careful,...

What is next on the performance list for this cobra, its only got 3650 miles on it and being 12 years old i think it will be wise to buy a new tranny belt and while i am in there what should i change or upgrade?

Your right about that those old Hondas seem to never die and the styling is amazing. Main reason I am drawn to the V-max is being young and dumb. But back to scoots I think oem tranny belts the best, but a kevlar is good to. I would go with some Malossi parts for clutch, clutch springs, torque springs, and variators. I think the best weights are Dr. Pulley. As far as which ones depends on what do you wanna do with this scoot? Are you racing? Do you want top speed, acceleration, or a more even performance? Do you need to tear uphill a lot? Also are you looking for lots of tuning or just a few mods?

@ joe,right now it slow on take off, and fast at mid then flatens out. i want a quicker take off. how do i fix that?

If your going for the most affordable mods first I would de-restrict the scoot. Next I would start by experimenting with slightly lighter roller weights. Now be warned going to far with weight changes will lower performance. Basically light will give more acceleration heavier will give more top speed. Usually this is true but on some scoots its not its kinda a trial and error thing. Also each scoots different so it could effect your differently. Next torque springs the clutch, by adjusting the spring tension you can tune it. A modded clutch can allow better take-off response and acceleration from cruising speed. In my opinion 1K is good for riding around flats and slight hills, 1.5K is good if you have steep hills, 2K is more for racing. If you have any more questions or need me to be more detailed feel free to ask. ;)

Many years ago I owned a 750 CBK too.
It was my second bike.
Although it was nice, IMHO it was not in the same class as the V-Max.

@ joe. Not knowing what all you said but kinda. here are pics of i do know and you will see what i have. I will only know what boss and weights i have when i open the side cover up..Does any one what the geen wire is for on my CDI. Thank for all your help folks!

..yeah, disconnect the green wire at it's coupling..tape or otherwise seal the open connector's ends..


..then ride!!!


That green wire is a CDI rev limiter circuit....breaking that circuit allows your engine to run at much higher rpms, which is desirable...

...HOWEVER!!!...DON'T RUN VERY LONG WITH A DE-RESTRICTED CDI WITHOUT DE-RESTRICTING THE CVT!!!

...sorry for yelling, but it's true...it'll burn up the belt and overheat the clutch...

found this ..maybe it will help somone..Kymco_Derestriction...ok im gonna go open her up and see whats inside...i beleive it has been modified already..it has a Malossi head on it. and a carb without the auto bystarter. pics to come in an hour
