Quick Makeover
« on: February 19, 2014, 06:26:03 PM »
Just a quick paint job to freshen up my Like. Every since I had my seat redone, the scoot went from a duo tone black/silver to a tri color brown/black/silver. That's too many colors for me. Ive always hated the grab rails anyways, i'm not sure why, I think they stand out too much. I finally did something about it. I used some flat black high-temp grill paint on the muffler and painted the grab rails to boot. I like the look. Next up is painting the cvt cover and rear rack to match and maybe masking off and doing the front forks. I think i'll leave the rims for now, if I wanted to do those i'd take them somewhere to be powder coated so it will last longer.

A couple of black LIKE's.
The glossy one is from the Netherlands.
I bought my can of grill paint last fall - waiting for warm weather to paint the silver on the exhaust - to make those areas disappear.
IS'sHO- the grab rails in gloss black to match the body. Flat black is noticeable.

Hey Dolemite, where did you get those grips? I really like the look.

Stig: I stood there in Lowes for about 10 minutes with glossy black and flat black in my hands, debating on which to get. I still may go back over the flat with the glossy, it might look good on the exhaust too. I have noticed that the flat on the grab rails does tend to attract finger prints, glossy should eliminate that. I'm a graphic designer so when I was deciding on seat cover color and what to paint the other parts I "tested" it all out in photoshop first. I ended up doing come crazy color schemes.

Mscmkr: When I had my seat made I asked for a matching pair of grip covers, they guy made them for free. It's just measured leather with shoe eyelets. I used some double sided duct tape to hold them tight. The way they're laced they don't quite meet in the middle, I plan on stretching it a bit and straight lacing them so they wrap all the way around. They do make the grip a little fatter but where the laces are it gives a good place for your fingers to grip.

Alright, finally got around to painting my rear rack and grab handles (again) this time I used a Rustoleum paint/primer gloss black for plastics and metals. A few coats over a few days, then topped it off with a  few coats of a gloss clear enamel to protect it. Check it out! Still planning on going over the cvt cover with flat black to match the exhaust one of these days. I'll probably wait a few more days just in case everything isn't fully cured before mounting the top box again.

Dolemite,
Nice job! Thanks for the pix!
I like the scoots that do some blacking out of the running gear below the body.
SYM does a good job of it, blacking out the CVT cover & shocks, with a touch of chrome and those red brakes!
About 25 yrs ago black chrome was all the rage on European cars - ( I had 2 German cars with it - I liked it!) SYM is dragging it back.
