GPS vs spedo

Can someone explain in detail how to use a GPS unit to check for speedometer accuracy?.
Last summer I had my GTI300 to 95 on the speedo. I suspect it might have been a little shy of 95 but, it felt like it was really moving.
I am familiar with high speeds on motorcycles and have a general feel for avg. speed.
I have a Garmin E-Trex and would like to know the actual speed of my scoot.
One thing that concerns me is trying to look at small numbers traveling along at 90+ mph.
What is the safest way to do this?.

..Just stick a piece of quality Velcro tape to your dash, somewhere that is easy to see...stick the opposing side to the back of a GPS unit..

..velcro the gps to the dash and ride!!

..get on a comfortable stretch of road and compare the GPS reading to the speedo..

..works like a charm!!

When my speedometer sensor was defective,  I mounted a Garman Nuvi on my bike permanently.  This model usually reads the speed in the lower left or right corner of the screen.  If you touch this reading,  the screen changes and the speed shows 5 times larger.  Also offers other key information.  I mounted my unit inside a waterproof plastic box from a sporting goods store.  I don't use it so much anymore,  but it has significant value showing "Where am I",  when calling AAA or a Towing Co.

I can concur with your gps verified speed, I saw 94 mph on mine and that was at 5000 feet elevation. Didn't look at it too long as I was holding on for dear life.  The GTi is very sweet up to 80 or even 85, but beyond that it seems to start to get a little nervous. Maybe it's just me. 

Check around in your gps settings as it probably has a setting where you can have much larger display numbers for a particular setting such as mph.

Doesn't it have a setting that will record your highest speed reached? If so use it and when you stop read it while sipping a cold one at a diner or roadside bar, thanking your lucky stars your still in one peice.
