sccoter worth more before or after mods
« on: March 20, 2014, 08:50:50 PM »
hey

last summer i installed a 72cc bbk, A9 cam, intake and exhaust mods, upjet, 5g rollers. scoot has way more power. i don't regret the mods, scoot is much more rideable and less scary than 49cc. around here, 49cc is just plain dangerous

but, its still not enough.. i though about going 85cc this summer but im having secod thoughs, maybe better idea to get a 150cc scoot instead

question is, do you think the scoot is worth more now than stock (meaning should i put it back to 49cc before i sell my A50

please no bbk trolls telling us we wil blow the engine in 1000 miles

I would sale as is but let the buyer know what you did to it to make it better.
sale it as a 50 cc because of the laws in your state. some laws say a moped is 50 cc and no more.
if you can keep it for a second scoot I would do that also.

You NEVER get back what you put into it. That was true in the 50s with "hot rods" and it is true today with scooters especially basically "stock" scoots with mods. Potential buyers still see the basic machine and will use that to beat your price down. Keep it with your mods and enjoy it. You are on the right track about getting a bigger scoot for more power. That path lets you ride instead of work!

You know, I think about your question --- and your very common complaint that 50cc scoots are dangerous -- and I remember that guy out in California who rides his 50cc Metropolitan all over creation - camping in the mountains, etc., etc. He loves it and never complains.(see him on youtube)
A whole different mind set when he's on the road I guess.

I would want a good running totally stock scoot if I were buying used.
But I understand that some buyers will like a hotted-up 50cc'er.....especially if the builder has added stuff but the scoot still has "0" driveability issues!
i.e.> if it's a "hot" scooter but runs like crap....that is a deal breaker.

yes mods were done due to laws, i dont have a motorcycle endorsement so 49cc is max here. its time to get one finally. All mods keep stock look to not attract attention (air box, exhause, drilled out but stock) only visibe mod is tach which i will remove. I'd think modded 49cc scoots here would be in demand b/c of the moped laws but I don't know

that thing about not getting your money out of mods, i get that. i just want to be sure the mods wont lower the value (some times they do) I havent spent much on it, maybe $150.

i was asking b/c when i bought the scoot the guy selling had 2 A50's, told brother in law he bough the other one, its still stock & he things it too slow, could swap engines and give him mods for free and sell my scoot as stock. would you bother with that?

very good point about you'd rather buy a stock scoot, unless i was convinced mods were done right i would go for stock too. nobody wants mods done wrong.

i could keep the scoot but i doubt id ever ride it with q 150cc also. could see if my gf wants it, mods would be good for her shes half my weight lol

i ordered a 150cc scott and it was delivered today, rode it and night and day difference to my A50 even with mods, can never go back now :o its SOOOO much more powerfull that i doubt its even possible to make an a50 perform like this stock 150

but, i am selling the A50 to a family member, so i may still check here if he nedds help with it.

it was fun tinkering with the A50 though, even though I never got it as powerfull as I wanted, I enjoyed working on it
