How to use Seafoam?
« on: March 28, 2014, 11:42:50 PM »
Sorry if there's already a thread about this, tried searching and just found people saying to use it.  But im wondering how to actually use the seafoam?  Ive heard you can either put 1 fluid oz. in the gas tank after you refuel or you can put it directly in the fuel line while engine is running.  To me it seems alot easier to just put it in the fuel tank.  Is one way better than the other?  Or do both perhaps, or just one of those ways?  Hoping i can just add it to the fuel and then WALLAH better performance!!  Also any info on brake fluid would be appreciated, for example, when to simply add more fluid vs. full fluid change.  (using dot 4)  Thanks for your time guys! :)  >>2013 red guilty btw.  Man im such a noob!

1oz  in the tank should be good enough. If ya need the gas lines cleaned its beeter to just replace theam. You can also put seafoam in with the motor oil to help clean the valves.I do this like 1 time a year.

You don't add brake fluid because they don't go anywhere... fluid level goes a bit down when pads wear but it's not a problem... You change the brake fluid after around two years.  Brake fluid absorbs moisture over the years and when this happens, the boiling point of the fluid lowers the you'll have lesser fluid performance.

I think the instructions on the can say 1 oz per gal. in the fuel tank.
Probably ok to use Slightly more but no need to overdo it.

Just a update:  May be wrong but i dumped 2 tablespoons of the seafoam into the gas tank.  Was expecting to see white smoke come out of the exhaust but i didnt.  Hopefully 2 tablespoons equals 1oz.  Approximately 30ml.?

Correct 2 TBs to 1 oz.
Now ride the scooter and then use SeaFoam in another 2 tanks full and there should be an improvement with each tank.

The white smoke occurs when you do the alternate method of pour 100% SeaFoam directly into the carb.
That is a much more drastic method than I would ever recommend.  If it needs that, then the carb needs to be removed and cleaned.

You don't have to worry about your scoot overdosing on Seafoam, so you really don't have to micro-measure it.  The first dose can be a much higher concentration than just a 'maintenance' dose of one OZ per gallon. It wouldn't hurt a thing except your wallet if you poured a whole can in there.

Yes, you can use more than the 1oz/gal.  I would not use more than 3 oz/gal (my opinion).
Yes, it will take about 3 tanks of treated gas to clean out the jets that are partially clogged.
If the jet is fully clogged, then it is impossible for the SeaFoam to get to the problem and therefore manually cleaning is needed.

Exactly!!
I use the very technical measurement device, called the Glugometer..

Scooter- 1 Gulg
Motorcycle- 2 Glugs
Car - 4-5 Glugs

Also, when getting gas for your lawn mower/chainsaw/string trimmer/etc, consider adding Sea Foam to the container before putting gas in.. That way your equipment is always prepared for short or long term storage. Keeps the gas in your can fresh, and the gas in the equipment's tanks fresh. Much easier to start!!!

Yep, just a little bit in the tank should be good enough. You can use seafoam for a lot of different purposes...bike might be smokey for a little bit but it's not a problem.
