Added a wing
« on: April 05, 2014, 11:21:20 PM »
Picked up a clean 1987 Interstate today because the ladies in my life enjoy a big back seat.   ;D   It's been a fun year but the Xciting may be going bye-bye, stay tuned...

An '87?.....you'll probably be wanting to order some new Dr Pulleys for that mother pretty soon.
I'm sitting here trying to figure out where the belt is....
...is there more than one?!
Lordy, look at that back seat!
OK, well keep us posted.
Ride safe - you'll be missed if you fall off of here....maybe you better pick up a People 50 just to keep in touch?

Enjoy that 1200!! I had a 95' 1500 and a 08' 1800 and both were wonderful machines.. I just wasn't a very good GoldWing rider.. I bought the 1800 and a year later it was the big, black, expensive machine that I pushed out of the way to get one of the other bikes out. It was all about heat, and the fact that I wear full riding gear.. Behind that fairing, when it's 90 degrees out, I rode one of my unfaired bikes.. The Wing was ridden in spring and late fall, and forgotten during the summer.

But it was an amazing machine!! Comfortable for the long haul!!

As Stig mentioned, keep something small for runs to the grocery store.. :)

lol the wing is something small for a run to the grocery store, my everyday ride is that white thing in the background.

Only time will tell if I keep the wing, it was a pretty plain vanilla 60 mile ride home after the purchase.  I also test rode a '04 Concourse today, now THAT bike has got some spunk.   :)  Had to pass on it though as my boys were, um, compromised by the seating position.

If you want spunk, as well as comfort for the better half, ride one of the 1800's..

Brakes so good that you feel like you can do stoppies, and low end grunt so good that you feel wheelies are a twist of the wrist.

I sold mine because I didn't want or need the big fairing. The rest of the bike rocked!!! :)

There is nothing like a Wing. I had a new 1997 Aspencade and I have the 2012 now and for comfort and all around performance, they can't be beat. I also had a new 2003 Concours and although a nice ride, it is more of a sportsbike.

Yours looks very clean and almost new---enjoy and remember there is a learning curve because of the weight mostly but that weight insures a fantastic highway ride.

Enjoy and be safe.

I had a gl1100 back in 1990 but sold it when I took on a wife and moved to a colder climate.  It's funny how things have gone full circle, purchasing the "new" wing is at her request, an attempt to reconnect.

Best of luck with your new ride. It sure looks clean. Honda's are very reliable. That passenger seat sure looks comfortable.

I added a bike this weekend, too..
Kind of the opposite of a Wing, though..

As mentioned in another topic, I'm addicted to minimalist camping and touring, and I found an excellent steed for the duty..

I bought a 2008 Hyosung GT250 in excellent condition and barely used, with less than 800km on the ODO.  After giving it a solid inspection at home I took it out on both days for a couple shakedown runs and get some Grand Tour towns (http://glmc.org/grand_tour.php)

I'm very happy with the comfort and I'm amazed with the engine in this thing.. At 100kph it's turning 7500rpm and the engine is smooth as glass. I did take it up to 75 and it remains smooth the entire time, and there's still more left on top.
The magnetic tank bag was a nice help, and I actually have Givi soft saddlebags showing up tomorrow. It's supposed to get 70mpg and it's got a 4.5 gallon gas tank.

Now for warmer weather!!

The request is greatly appreciated!! I'm about to ride to work, and it's 39F outside right now.. Luckily it's only a 9 mile ride.

And the more I look at your Wing photos, the more I see just how clean that bike is!!!
You scored a great one there!!
